Have recently noticed my car clicks at idle...
BUT when you raise the revs it stops.....and when you drop down towards idle its rough and then clicks again

now i have detected that the carbon recirc thingy under the bonnet clicks, but this is different.

there is an intermittant fault code on VAGCOM indicating somthing to do with fluid temps etc......
now the car aint running badly and the temp gauge isnt going off the scale....tempted to think its the water pump on its way out!

having bushes, cambelt, tensioner etc done over easter and before i go buying a waterpump kit, i was wondering if anyone else experienced this!
baring in mine its a 99T on just over 90k miles.....

cheers guys
Samantha

Ok so a couple of days after i originally posted, the gauge went mad...sometimes working somtimes not and on 1/2 journeys not coming off 0!!!
bought a new temp sender but on inspection today (during cambelt and water pump change) one of the impellers in the pump has snapped off and there is no sign of it.....

the old impellers are plastic but the replacement is metal, so hopefully it will be ok......unless the rogue bit comes through again!!!!! and smashes the metal ones to pieces!

will post piccies later!:)

Found the problem!

Silversurfer is correct, look at the state of my original water pump...

The broken parts of the pump didn't get very far in fact they were found later on in the bucket used to catch any coolant when water pump was withdrawn.
I urge any one with a strange clicking noise on the cambelt side of the engine with similar symptoms as i posted at the begining to get it checked out before the impellor gets completly smashed off and your car overheats. Incidently i drove from Widnes to Kent and back with this fault.
