Seeing as you guys seem to be geniuses when it comes to Cupras i thought i would run this one by you...

I was driving going up through the gears when suddenly as i tried to go in to 5th my revs shot up and the engine didn't respond to any gear changes. So for some reason gears will no longer engage when the clutch is released...

I have a 6 speed manual on an 05 Leon FR tdi...

just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what could be wrong as i'm clueless? :help:

the clutch pedal feels normal but when i select a gear nothing happens, although when the car is idle i can hear a noise when changing gear just the gears fail to get selected properly and the engine just revs...

does the noise sound like a rattling could be the release bearing on the clutch is shot, other than that i dont know maybe check the gearbox oil too see if that okay.

car is at the garage , it just sounded pretty normal is all, only reason i noticed was that i stopped going any faster and my revs were shooting up like i still had the clutch down...

Hi when the car is running can you put it in to gear with out pushing the clutch down?????

just asking as i actually work on clutches and gearboxs sounds like either the centre of the clutch plate or the diff in the gearbox as blown. just a guessing game at the min tho without someone investergating further

The clutch pedal will always feel ok unless the concentric slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder stop working as they should.

Your engine doesn't respond to gear changes at all, it's the gearbox that responds when you waggle the stirring stick.

The fundamental question here is, does waggling the stick still make anything happen at the gearbox end? Because it sounds to me as though your gear linkage has failed. Try getting someone to move the gearstick while you look at the gearbox end of the linkage.

With the engine stopped, does it feel like you are going into gear when you move the gearstick, clutch in or out?

So for some reason gears will no longer engage when the clutch is released...

Either you aren't in gear at all, or the big spring that forces the clutch plates together has failed. Can't think of anything else that would produce this symptom.

How did you get on with this mate? i had a similar problem, could only select 1st 3rd and 5th. its turned out that thread on the center of the gear shifter has been stripped so needs replacing.
