Nearly there!

Today I have mostly been getting on with it:

So, there was a big difference in the shape of the aftermarket clusters and the OEM lenses. You can see from this pic that there was a large amount of plastic sticking out from behind the lenses. Not a great pic, but you get the idea.

Out came the trusty Dremel and i cut them down to the same shape and size as the lenses:

After I had cut them to roughly the right shape and size, I went out into the cold and test fitted them. Shockingly, they fit perfectly, better than the aftermarket ones ever did. This was a huge relief - i can't tell you how good it felt!

Next, I went back inside and sanded the rough edges down and coated them with Isopon plastic bumper filler so I could get rid of the grooves left by the Dremel and minimise the sanding involved.

After it dried, I sanded the edges again to give a nice smooth finish. Actually the pics are fron during the smoothing process and I eventually got them a lot better than it looks in these pics:

Now that they were nice and smooth, they were still looking a bit ghetto, so I painted the outside edges of each cluster in black - actually I chose Outlaw Black, because that sounds much faster:

Once the paint dries, I will be bonding them to the lenses tomorrow and should hopefully get them on the car and working before I go back to work on Monday.

:funk:

Thanks to everyone who has commented on here for giving me the motivation to keep going and get them finished.

right, so I broke out the sealant stuff and got going today. Unfortunately I found out that it is white in colour, which is not what I wanted at all, but it was the only product I could find that was fully water resistant and ticked all the boxes. It's called "serious stuff wet grab" and allegedly even works under water.

so I stuck it all together - my fingers, my shirt, the lenses, clusters and various other things too. It was very fun. At one point I had it done perfectly and then I looked at the light and it had a white fingerprint inside it so I had to take it apart and try again...
The white sealant is less than ideal and made this very difficult, I dont recommend it at all, although it will probably stop them from getting condensation inside so hopefully will be worth it.

All done:

So now that they have white stuff holding them together I'll be needing a bit more

hehe

I'll post some pics tomorrow when I've got them on the car.

The finish product looks great. A subtle to the eye mod. But for everyone that has seen this thread and seen how much work uve put into doing them will appreciate them even more.
Top job:):)
