I have been having a little problem with my 03 cordy in the mornings.

I get in my car, turn the engine on, release the handbrake and go.......... or maybe not.

My car seems to be stuck to the spot and I have to give it a little bit of rev to get it moving. It feels as if the handbrake is till on although it isn't and once i push the car a little it slackens off and the car moves fine.

It only happens 1st thing in the morning (it doesn't even have to be that cold for it to happen).

Any ideas what this could be. Should I take it to a garage to get it checked out?

Thanks

Your rear brake pads will be sticking to the Discs mate...

It often happens in cold/damp weather or when you wash a car as the brake discs' surfaces slightly rust and grappel onto the Pad.

It never happens to me as i dont yank the handbrake but it has happened when other people have parked my car - therefore try using as few ratchet clicks as possible if you park on the flat, always making sure its in gear.

So it is nothing major?

I do park on the flat but I never pull the handbrake harder than it has to be pulled. I also always leave it in gear. Would pumping the brakes when i get in the car release the pads from the discs or do I just have to rev it a little

If I park on the flat I pull the handbrake on one notch and leave it in 3rd gear ... mine sticks all the time ('03 Passat) if I pull the handbrake any more than that, especially if it's damp overnight.

It's just the disks going a bit rusty and sticking to the sintered pads, I think
