Sticking Seat Logo Boot Opener

Hi,

I’ve noticed recently that after I’ve been in my boot the Seat Logo Boot Opener is getting stuck in the open position, rather than springing back close and going flush with the boot.

Is this likely to just need lubricating or could it be a mechanical issue? Not sure if it’s something that could be done from the exterior or would I need to take the trim off inside the boot lid?

Thanks,
James.

Not sure if it's still the same design... but this vid is worth a watch. Basically just a metal stick it pivots on that gets clogged up over time.

My old altea had this and it was just build up of dust and dirt combined with a lack of lubrication. Fixed it with some sprays of wd40 in the hinge points and a lot of wiggling if the handle to work it in. In my case, there was no need to take it apart. The hinge for the logo is the only mechanical part anyway, the boot release is done by a switch and electrical actuator.

It's not the same as the one in the video but it's similar enough. There is no mechanical linkage, it's just a switch, but the plastic parts are broadly similar.

Water gets in, rusts the pivot and freezes in winter. Take the handle out, work some grease or vaseline into the pivot and put a bit of tape over the ends to keep some of the water out. I did this last year and it hasn't stuck since.

All sorted now thanks, used some WD40 for the time being which seems to have done the job nicely!
