Stering wheel replacement / upgrade

Hi guys

I currently have an 07 Altea, i was thinking about upgrading the steering wheel to a wheel which has radio / phone controls on it, can anyone tell me how easy is it to change it??? Apart from the wheel and the cable to the head unit do i need any other parts??

And any links on where i might get a used wheel from would be great too

Would any know if an 06 Ibiza FR steering wheel would fit my 07 Altea

looking to add steering wheel controls for my radio and was wondering if this would do the job, also what other bits may i need??

No would not work has diffrent comunication line then the altea.

There is no cable to the head unit there is lin bus line from E221 stering wheel buttons to the J527 stering wheel control module then convinience canbus to the gateway then info multimedia canbus to the radio
You ned recode J527 to do the job with radio operation but if you want phone control you need aditional control module

If i did get an Altea wheel with controls, (to replace mine without controls)

I have never done that,but i can check tommorow for you if the slip ring and steering weel control module are the same with and without stering butons if they the same and you got the complete stering wheel with buttons and the loms should be straight foward just recode J527 to E221 operation and enjoy

thx for that, how do you go about recoding the j527 and E221 operation, lost me on that bit

Just change your 4th digit in your steering wheel control module coding from ''0'' to the ''2''
For example 0002012 with controls on wheel
or 0000012 without.

If you have got vcds or some other diagnostic equipment the job is for you if not find someone locally to help you i am to far away from you sorry.
