Steering wheel play.

Hi, while i'm driving along i can move my wheel very slightly without actually turning the car. This is more noticeable at motorway speeds can move the wheel with my fingers and have a slight amount of play.

Is there anything that can be tightened up in the steering rack, or any other suggestions?

Could be your track rod ends needing replaced, or the inner ends of the track rods themselves. Could also be wear in the rack and/or the uni joints in the steering column. Plenty of bits to give a bit of wiggle as they wear!

most likely as csd said is a track rod end or could even be a worn bottom ball joint. best replacing both sides at the same time so the wear evenly and also ensure the tracking gets set after fitting the new bits!

well when i had the car up the other day i couldnt turn the wheels. and thought i would be able to feel a bit of play in that if it was the track rod ends.

I had one replaced a while a go.

I have a similar problem with mine. Could be that the original bushes need replacing?
