Steering wheel off center

Less than a week after collecting the 290 I noticed my steering wheel is a bit off center. Its only couple of milimiters, some people probably wouldnt notice but my OCD cant stand it, I cant stop looking at it when driving straight.

Is this something that can settle on a new car or should I get the alignment checked/corrected? It has around 600mi on the clock atm and I have a feeling it was slightly better this morning, a bit confused now.

Thanks!

It won't get better on its own, and it should be straight! (OCD or not).
It would drive me mad too.
Back to the dealer I'd say.

Years back I used to get alignment done in Kwik fit and the likes and the car always came away with the steering wheel not centred. They done the wheel tracking from just the one end instead of locking the steering in the central location and then doing the tracking from both ends to even it out. Now only go to reputable garages for wheel tracking.

Years back I got a brand new 316 with the same problem, dealer said the steering wheel was between splines and nothing doing and it was Kwik Fit who centred the wheel and adjusted the track ends to be in alignment with the central position.

I would take it to a reliable garage with laser tracking as they will understand what you want doing and why. It may cost you £20 but at least they will listen, especially if they are car people I.e. Not somewhere like Kwik Fit.

Not saying a dealer won't, but they probably won't!!!

I did that yes, paid almost exactly 20 but they had good equipment and often had sports cars on the machines etc. Anywa, they corrected my 290 also having found a slight misalignment.

how are you determining its off centre? while driving on a straight section of road in the left lane?
is the steering wheel off turned to the right? left?

often the steering wheel may be a little to the right as roads tend to have camber.
you need to have a smooth and LEVEL piece of tarmac to check really.
Then if off it could be something simple like tyre pressures.
or something you will never get to work out like a bearing that's a little looser then the otherside.

if you do get tracking then it needs to be 4 wheel alignment. even then, the steering wheel is only held roughly straight, not OCD standards. depends how much its out by but it could end up being worse

Meppershall Beds.
My old e class went in for a steering wheel airbag recall, and they didn't put the wheel back on the right splines.
to drive straight I had to have the wheel out about 30 degrees till they refitted it the next day.
Really disconcerting because you just HAVE to have the wheel centred, and if I did that I'd be on the pavement after 20 yards.
Main dealer, rushing the job at 5.30, when they'd had it all day.
