Hi Guys,
I did post a thread not so long ago about some electrical issues and I thought this fell under them. I replaced my battery and fixed the starting and stereo - although Coolant and Brake Fluid Warnings come on every morning still for no reason.

Anyway - My steering is still a bit dodgy. I thought it was maybe not enough power to the pump, but the new battery seems to be working fine. Let me describe what happens and I would really appreciate your thoughts on what it may be before I save up and take it to be looked at.

When i turn left my steering feels a little light and for example if i am doing about 30mph in a corner at half turn, the steering judders and feels like it either wants to fight back to being straight or full lock, which is a bit un-nerving. When i turn right, it feels a little heavy, but this could be in contrast. I have had the issue for about a month or so and it doesnt seem to cause any major problems day to day other than scare me in corners. Once, the power steering totally switched off and i had to turn the car off and on to get it back, but I wasnt sure if that was the dead battery. The problem feels mechanical, but then I am not a mechanic.

Any advise on what it may be? My initial thought it steering boot (if there is one)
Thanks,
Bob

PS sorry if it sounds a bit vague, please ask anything that might help your conclusion :)

thanks for the response - i am DESPERATELY hoping its not the steering rack as SEAT quoted me £500 just for the part.

If it is, does anyone know where to get one thats not so expensive?

Took it to SEAT today. Had it plugged in and an engineer took a look. No errors at all. He said he thinks its the Power Steering Rack and to replace including parts and labour would be about £800....!!!

Anyone know where to get a good aftermarket steering rack. I tried eurocarparts - dont sell them. Id prefer not a breakers as its a big job and I dont want something going in that I dont know whether it works or not

I know this is an old post, but did you find out what was the problem afterwards? As I/m getting a sort of similar feeling with my sterring wheel!
