steering is bad!!!

from new i've experienced rattles coming through the steering wheel causing a horrid driving experience. when the car was under warranty Seat changed the bearing atleast twice and i've just got it looked at again at J P Board in Brigdend. They told me the rack was gone and no matter how many times the bearing were replaced the problem would come back. He also told me it was due to the amount of stress the car will go through having lower suspension, adjusted camber and wide tyres.

As this envoles removing the sub-frame the labour is high!

2 questions.

Has anybody else had this done on there ibiza?

Where do you reackon the cheapest place will be to get it fixed as the quote was expeinsive.

do u mean like a vibration through the wheel?? I get it between 55-65mph, I've put it down to my wheels need balancing and my cheap front spacers. Going to replace them with some decent hubcentric ones which will hopefully cure it.

no quite harsh wobbling.

i have new wheels and tyres all round. when you hit a pot hole in the road it shakes the wheel.

think my ibiza is suffering the same fate as yours again Addo, all related to the snapped roll links I/you have been suffering from if you recall???

Noise on mine is getting horrendous, and it seems the steering rods are more or less sitting on the arb now, looks like they have dropped?

I get an erratic droning noise when turning the wheel left or right, plus a heavy clonk noise, which has led me to believe the steering rack or the bloody big bush on the rack is up the swanny? (thanks for the heads up Saul)

let me know how you get on, im currently pricing up a new rack also.

Dan

ps- this has been going on for the past 2 years or more on mine

mine makes a slight clunk bit nothing major when turnig the wheels on the spot.
Just had my wheels back from refurb and i get very bad vibration at high speeds which i put down to bad wheel balencing, which im going to get sorted.

would assume about 2-3 hours labour mate as the subframe has to come out, let me know when you have sourced the part/part number.

Ive been told it could just be the bush that holds the rack that needs replacing though. Anyone got the ETKA diagram?

can get the part number for rack 2moz if that's any good, also got a 2nd hand rack from a mk3 20vt sat in my garage if you want to make me an offer

yeah i need a new rack so the part number would be great. I'd love to save some money on buying your but the labour quote i've been told is so high i'd want some warrenty that it didn't happen again. not to say im ruling your rack out yet though just gathering more information before i take the plunge.

convinced myself its the rack now. had mine up on the ramps yesterday again, as said before seems like the rack has dropped so the steering track rods are now so close to the arb that they always make a noise over the slightest of bumps. If you do a full lock turn and then brake suddenly the noise is that cringing im sure something is gonna give sooner or later:(

I want to replace my rack ASAP. i hate the rattling clunking ect...

lets try and sort a group buy out for 3 racks ASAP whatyou reckon, im also thinking about changing some bushes to poly bushes at the same time.

I'll ask Awesome gti for a quotation to start with perhaps.
