Thought i'd share my story as i'm sat bored at home with no car!!!

had a bit of an accident yesterday in my cupra, was sent home from work early because the rain was really bad up here and on the way home i had drove through a puddle which didnt look too deep, unfortunatley it was:cry:
Car stuttered and knocked to a halt just after the water, had the aa out they helped me get most of the water out of the engine but still wouldnt start....
so it's gone to a local garage to be looked at through my insurance as i'm led to believe it may well have done serious internal damage as the car was running when the water entered...(i.e bent con rods?)

after a chat with the garage they advised me if it has caused any damage it will most likely be a write off!!

so the morale of the story is stay away from those puddles lol:shrug:

Sorry to hear fella - how deep was this puddle? Ive hit a few puddle but never too deep - always a bit nervy as you have to just steer through them as appose to breaking whilst in one -

didnt know insurance companies cover for this -

Oh dear gutted for ya mate. Hope it hasn't caused too much dammage! Were you running a perfromance filter with the cold air feed in the bumper?

no car was completely standard, but as you know the standard i/c as particularly low as well as the air intake being over the arch so it's a recipe for disaster when it comes to water...
either way im gonna buy it back once they write it off..

I may be able to help, i have just removed a complete set of standard rods and pistons from mine to upgrade, You pay postage mate and there yours if its any help. I also have a complete set of valves too.

ye i'll keep you in mind mate, depending on whats up with it.
just waiting on a report from the garage which could take a week..:(

Dont know how much my insurance would want for me to buy it back...any past experience anyone??

same happened to me but all i did was take the spark plugs out , tick the engine over it spat a hell of a lot of water out dried the spark plugs popped them bck in and it started 2nd time lol

I know how you feel mate, Back in 2000 i drove though a flooded road in my Saxo and it to sucked up a load water. Recovery Company got the water out and told me to take it for spin, but the damage was already done.
Ended up blowing a hole in the side of the block in the fast lane of a dual carriageway with a Traffic Cop Car behind me.

It wasn't pretty:doh:

insurance paying for repairs at a local volkswagen specialist,
having whatever it needs but the estimate for the job is £1900 so not a cheap effort...
Just glad im not paying lol.

got my new custom head unit to go in when i get it back and might treat her to a remap!!:)
