Standard airbox modded for open cone filter

One thing i've noticed on my airbox is that under the MAF entry in the lid, there seems to be another pipe, is this a crankcase breather or something else? if it is, where is yours as i can't see it anywhere in the pics. I know halfrauds do some small crankcase vents quite cheap.

thats the secondary air input Lee, the noisy pump that runs when you start the car :)

Needs to have filtered air.

ah ha, so if i drill a hole in the filter base plate it can take all the filter air it needs from there then. Sorted, thanks.

I'll be fitting it tomorrow so i'll make sure i take plenty of pictures. Also ordered 007p on friday so hopefully that will arrive early next week so i'm looking forward to some nice induction noise and slighty louder DV noise.

Next on the list is boost gauge and replace all vacuum hose with silicone hoses. I've only had the car 2 months and i'm already spending money that i wasn't planning to :) ah well never mind, you only live once, spend it while you can.

I stand corrected

Secondary air system
Function
The secondary air system blows air in behind the exhaust valve for up to 100 seconds following a cold start (coolant temperature +5 °C ... +33 ° C)This enriches the exhaust gas with oxygen, causing afterburning and reducing the heat-up phase of the catalyst. Activation is performed by the Motronic control unit -J220- via the secondary air pump relay -J229- to the secondary air inlet valve (-N112-, change-over valve) and to the combi-valve.

Got around to fitting the new filter this morning, had to get a large jubilee clip to fit the filter to MAF sensor, good old local motor factors £1.50 for 100mm clip (halfrauds didn't have anything bigger than 50mm). Had to buy a small crankcase filter to fit to the secondary air pump hose which normally takes air from the air box (its cheap and cheerful but does its job. Just need to cut the original lid to keep as much cool air fed towards the filter and upgrade the cold air hose to 3 or 4 inch jobbies.

I can't believe the difference in noise of induction as well as dump valve noise. Wonder if the forge will be even louder? The car seems to be less hesitant than with the standard element. Hopefully the 007p will sort out other niggly hesitations.

it rests on the bottom of the original air box at the minute. I'm going to cut the original lid the same as b3lsy but i see what you mean. Maybe have to prop it up underneath the MAF to take any pressure off it or maybe drill some small holes in the lower section of the air box and tie it to stop it moving around too much. Have you had any issues with yours b3lsy?

no its not a HKS (can't afford one of them) its just a universal mushroom shaped filter

not really, sounds nice but on the road traffic etc the standard air box is better but when give it stick an dyno runs its better,i cable tied mine to the air box to stop movement

i'll see how it goes over the next few days and see if i have any issues with it. It doesn't seem that much smaller than the HKS one. I had to use a collar to enable it to fit on the MAF, i think the MAF is 70mm and the filter hole was 80mm. I'll get some cable ties tomorrow and tie the MAF and filter neck to the airbox.

What kind of issues would you expect if the filter was too small?
