Squeak, Rattle and roll

Over the last few months I have been driven mad by an annoying squeak that seems to be coming for my steering column. It has no bearing on weather conditions (i.e. wet or damp getting in) but only appears when I turn right. I explained the problem to my Dad who was a mechanic about half a century ago and he seems to think it might be a dry steering bush! I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem.

On another note when you put a full lock on, are you supposed to hear what sounds like an aerosol can spraying coming from the dash – Possible power steering fluid?

Many thanks.

you will find the spraying sound is coming from the actual steering wheel itself, is the power steering fluid rush etc, it will not sound if you let the steering wheel right itself, only when your turning. All cars have these sounds.

You sure its not the ring behind the steering wheel that needs greasing?

I have sprayed WD40 in that little gap between the steering wheel and the plastic bit which the indicater and window wiper sticks go into. I presume this is where the 'ring' is. Please can you advise further.

yeah i think its techical name is a slip ring? mine grinds and creaks every so often.

although you would surely have play in your steering if your bush needed replacing?

Im pretty certain i know wat the problem is, i had this, If u take the plastic thing off round the gear stick, u need to get behind the where the hole is in front of the little compartment, And basically its where the dash screws and bolts to the floor of the car, its bit tricky to get it off like, its comes lose on the little plastic bolts and the whole dash moves up n down, sorta makes a funny squeek and it did it worse on right bends(i think) All i did is put some foam under the metal brackets then screw it back down ....that seem to cure it, dunno if u get where i mean but hope this helps :) ... a test u can do if it is that, is Push quite hard(not to hard) on the dash near where u adjust the fan speed in a sorta downward force while drivin i found it stoped the sqeek, this maybe not be ur problem and i cud never tell where the the sound was coming from, just happened to do this and it stoped it lol

I currently have the following squeaks and rattles..

1. Metallic rattling (heat shield?) under the car, towards the front. Got it up on a ramp, couldn't find anything.

2. Loud squeaking coming from just behind the handbrake.

3. Squeak from the black plastic around the dials.

4. Squeak from somewhere in the vincinity of the glove box (intermittent)

If anyone has any idea how to cure the above mentioned please, PLEASE for the love of god let me know asap *ahem*

Cheers

Sometimes it chirps when i pull away and quite a lot when braking... Would also love to know what this could be!!!

I didn't even bother adding the fact that my boot rattles like a flat chested tart in a DD bra. I'm pretty sure that its the plastic cover that hides the rear wiper motor etc, as when i have taken this off it stops. Oh how i wish i could have a rattle free car. :cartman:

I've got a bloody bird in the glovebox area too.

And i think the CD Changer in the boot is juggling around; either that or the parcel shelf jumping around when i go over a bump or rough road.

Doin my nut.

Sold my black one to ROGERS on here then bought a 106 gti to save money.

Got the 106 home and noticed that the bonnet didnt line up!!. Neither did the wings and the arches looked a bit dodgy.

Luckily i bought it from a VW garage so took the car back and had my money back.

After that i just thought.... Cupra time again!

Just bought a 2001 Cupra. Flash Red. 20k on the clock. Factory fit red dash kit, mud flaps, upgraded Sony CD changer and active Sony Sub. All factory.

Owned by a 68 year old bloke who bought it new who lives around by me turns out. I even found his Over Sixties B&Q card in the money tray. Which confirms what the dealer said about him being old. He;s just bought a new Flash Red LCR!!.

The car is mint.

Quite pleased with it.

Yeah defo mate.

Nice to be back in a cupra.

The condition of this one is mental. He only used it to go back and fourth to tesco,

I had a browse through the service book and saw that one year he only did 1300 miles!! Thats awesome.
