Squeak from the back

This is mainly for anyone searching in the future.

I have a squeaking noise coming from the rear of the car which sounds like a suspension creak so I hadn't bothered trying to find out what it was coz the stereo normally drowns it out anyway. Rather annoying when you don't have it on when you have passengers in the car though.

I found out earlier today that it is the polystyrene tool holder that sits in the middle of the spare wheel.

I've put rags around the outside of it where it touches the spare wheel in an attempt to stop the noise but haven't driven it yet so I don't know how effective it will be.
Has anyone else had the same problem, and how did you stop the noise?

Funny I get this when I get in and out of the car and it definitely comes from the back shocks. Only seems to happen when it's been wet.

I thought it was a fairly common LC/LCR feature! Bit like the clunky brakes!

Maybe mine is shocks too and it will still happen when I go home in half an hour.

I only noticed coz I was kneeling in the boot fixing something else and heard the noise from underneath me. Lifted the carpet up, move the tool holder around and it made the noise again.
