can any please shed some light on my problem:(

mk3 ibiza cupra, st1 revo'd,forge dv, fmic, twister induction kit,

few days ago whilst drivin on the motorway aprox 60 - 70 mph my car ( 2001 ibiza cupra) started to splutter and normally peaks at 18 psi now only gets to 5 psi, triple checked pipes and found no leaks anywhere, quite a bit of white smoke/steam coming from exhaust even at idle, altho it does smell like petrol and has left a black mark on the drive under the tailpipe, been to the local garage and they say its the cat, oh and the car is drinkin petrol like its goin out of fasion:(

thought i'd ask you guys that you thought as you seem to know more about these cars the the local grease monkey:D

so

1, is it possibly the cat
2, wheres the best/cheapest place to get one

many thanks in advance:p

IIRC you should smell rotton eggs if cat

usual checks are MAF, coils, plugs

it'll be in limp mode. will have to run vag-com on it and see what faults it brings up.

alternatively, and at your own risk. you can disconnect the ground cable on the battery for half an hour, and that will clear the faults. you can then run your car with the maf disconnected and see if thats at fault. and then reconnect it. but i would only do this as a last option to test the maf.

there will be a reason why its in limp mode so i would see if there is anyone in your area with vag-com first

Not true btw. rotten egg smell is unburnt fuel in your cat. Usually pointing towards a faulty coilpack or spark so 1 specific cylider isn't firing.

If all else fails you can take it to midland vw in cannock, he charges 15 quid to plug it in, tell you what the fault is and then delete any if necessary. Not bad really. Ive got a lead but just cant get it to work. Ollie where abouts are you just out of curiousity?
