speedometer needle jittery

Hello all,

I've recently bought a 2013 Leon SC, 1.4 tsi with 140hp.
While driving at any steady speed, with or without cruise control, the speedometer needle tends to be jittery / bouncy. It will go up or down 2-3 km/h, nothing extreme. Also not all the time, but enough to be fairly noticeable. While accelerating or decelerating it doesn't seem to happen, only when at a steady speed.

The rpm needle is rock steady however, even while the speedometer is jittering. Is this normal behaviour, is this a sensor on the verge of dying or does this indicate another problem?

Sounds like the damper on the needle is broken. No idea if this can be fixed or if you'd need to replace the while instrument binnacle.

Yeah that could be the problem. Driving to work today I compared it with the digital speed reading in the center screen and that was very consistent, so I assume the signal is okay.

The entire instrument cluster is probably expensive, so I think I'll just live with it for now. Maybe look out for a nice second hand one.

What do you mean request approval from Seat?
Unfortunately you cannot just buy another used instrument cluster, slap it to your car and expect it to work. What @cairus mean is that you have to get approval from VW to do this, adjust mileage, adjust component protection and immobilizer... Don't know how that works in other countries but in Poland you have to also send information about instrument cluster change to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Probably have something to do with mileage frauds.

The rest of the dealers can't adjust the mileage on used cars. For analog cars, a competent tuner or tool owner can. VC is very, very difficult.

I To it myself since a View days CP and Immo
