speedo fuel gauge not working.

hi,i have a 2001 x reg alhambra and the fuel gauge is playing up-keeps telling me to refuel when there is prob half a tank of fuel left,at the same time the speedo stops working-occasionally the speedo will work and when it does the fuel gauge gives a correct reading-any help/advice is much appreciated.thanks

I had a similar problem on a golf
Was a plastic drive gear in the gearbox

cheers mate-prob now sorted-was a speed sensor at the back of the gearbox near the shift cables,i had an o-ring go on a water pipe and it was continually dripping down on the gearbox and building up at the sensor,therefore knackering it!.
