speaker upgrade

FR*Man1984

time for a MINI adventure
I've searched the threads and I can't find what I want to know
I'm useless with technical stuff so please bare with me...

Basically I want to upgrade my speakers in my car, don't know what I want, and I certainly don't want no sales person telling me what I should get from my local store. I need proper impartial advice.

What are amps & subs, do I really need them?

I must say, my little Punto Sporting had an ace sound system with an in-built Subwoofer (100w) but it was great, I know you can get better but nothing needed "modding." But I still to this day don't know what it did! lol

So I'm asking, what I need, do I need to replace my headunit for an aftermarket one...and also most importantly what prices am I looking at, as I'll need a professional to fit it...:ban: lol I would really prefer to keep my head unit as I've got steering wheel mounted countrols, and I've jus thad fitted a iPod adapter (thru my dealership in Preston)

Thanks peeps, look forward to the responses

hey, as no one has replied ill try pour some light on your situation! amps or amplifiers, basically make the electical signals larger and therefore speakers or subwoofers will run louder with better sound definition! (a subwoofer is generally a speaker that is 10 inches or bigger that sits in the boot that produces the low bassy sounds). so if you want a good quality system you will need to change most of it really: new headunit, component speakers (16cm) and an amp for the speakers. if you want more bass, you will need a subwoofer and either one amp to power all the speakers, or two amps, one for the components and one for the subwoofer........im no specialist but thats what i think anyway! fitting for all of the above would cost around £150-£200

componant speakers are much better for sound quality and seat have put in some crappy componant speakers, and if you are wanting better stuff go for componant speakers specially with the front i wouldt worry about the back and amp the new front speakers and add a sub it doesnt have to be a loud very expensive one but it will sound alot better.. i have just got my sound system how i want it and to be honest its to loud i think im going to go deff but nevermind lol

not really....most places you can buy steering wheels interfaces for your new headunit to match your car....im not sure on the seat ipod install but i have my ipod attatched to my apline headunit, so therefore you might loose the seat one thats just been put in
dont hold me against it though im not 100% sure!
with regards to the speakers, get a nice set of components, amp them up and buy another amp to run a sub. you get the best all round sound if you do it like this IMO.
cheers

no a meant the reason for me wanting a new car is that the 1.2 is running out of things I can do, ie the new one will have more engine mods etc.
