Common fault. The push down ones tend to pop up. You can buy screw down ones or get a bracket made to keep them down.
As for the noise. Is the coilpack pushed right down? Is it down on power? Eggy smell?

Coilpacks give off an eggy smell too, as does a blown boost pipe sometimes.
It's hard to tell without confirming with vag-com but it might be pointing towards a coilpack. Just a bit suspicious if it's blown when its popped out.

Eggy smell will be the sulphur compounds in the unburned fuel due to no ignition in cylinder 2.
But an eggy smell could (very very rarely) come from the battery if the sulphuric acid was reduced to hydrogen sulphide.
But in this case it will be the fuel.

Cheers, went into Volkswagen and got a new coil pack. Also replaced all the plugs. Left the car idling then pulled out the coilpacks too see which one didnt change the sound.. and hey presto i found it, swopped it and it runs like a dream now. Thanks for the advice all!!
