Spare Wheel

My 54 Stylance has a space saver spare but the handbook does not mention it. So I was uncomfortable but, according to SEAT UK it was a standard fitment.

I am hoping someone can help with some info:

1) What is the recommended pressure for this "skinny" tyre?

2) Any recommendations for where to get a cheap full-size (17") wheel? Does'nt matter the pattern or steel/alloy as it is for the spare.

Many Thanks.

the pressures are on a label inside the fuel filler flap. If it's not there on your car, post back and I'll look at mine.

The space saver on mine is not exactly skinny, but then again it's never been off the car!

Thanks. What does your fuel flap state? Mine only covers the standard tyre sizes.

there are two sets of pressures quoted. one for the standard 225/45x17 tyres at various load states and the other is for the space saver - 195/60x16 from memory.

Thank you 100.
Your post made me scramble under the car to have a proper look and the spare is indeed a 195/60/R16C. I thought it was much thinner.
So now I am really puzzled!
Just after I bought the car, I looked at buying a pair of 16" wheels for snow tyres from my local SEAT dealer. They tried one on the front and advised against that size as the clearance around the calipers was very tight.
Also my previous was a Sharan and the tyre size was 205 ( the base model may even have been 195). My spare is a Michelin Agilis 51 which is a standard van tyre - 99H rated.
So it looks as if the 50 mph limit is due to the reduced width versus the standard as the tyre itself is clearly suitable for normal use.
Whatever, I still want to find a cheap wheel for a full-size spare!

I don't claim to be an expert. but it's entirely possible that the wheel is a special to accommodate the calipers.

however at this time, 17" wheels were relatively new and some people worried (rightly in my view) about worsening the ride on a car that's already got sports suspension. It was not unusual for customers and eealers to do a deal to fit 16" alloys.

whether that changed when SE's became Stylance I have no idea, but I'd doubt it.

You are probably right about the shape of the 16" wheel.

I certainly agree with you on the 17" standard fitment with the 45 profile tyres. Coming from my old Sharan Sport the ride was noticeably harsher and there was a hint of tramlining. Since the tyres were pretty worn, I took the opportunity to change them for 215/50s which has improved things. (That did put the rolling diameter up slightly but the engine is pretty gutsy anyway and I was hoping to improve the economy a bit).

Anyway, I will probably keep the existing spare and, if ever I need to use it, I will put it on the back to minimise the impact of the different tread width.
