I have the dreaded foam and compressor... I tell you if i could find the muppet that specced my car i would give them a right talking to... no spare wheel and no MP3 headunit... no Bluetooth either Humpff.

Anyway, sorry about the rant. Does anyone know if its possible to buy a spare wheel from the dealer? Also, will a Mk5 Golf one fit (on the car and in the boot) as I might be able to source a scrapped one. I dont know why but I feel uneasy about the foam, a proper spare just seems more 'right' if you know what I mean.

Cheers

My dealer rang me to tell me they have a spare wheel for me, but I would have to give the inflation kit back so I didn't bother. So I assumed they were swapping them over.

Hmm, so the cack space saver is a fortune to buy then? An alloy would be nice but would it fit in the spare wheel well? I dunno.

Does anyone know if the Golf MK5 spare would fit in the wheel well?

Thats for an alloy though, which probably wont fit in the spare wheel well in the boot. I guess the spacesaver is expensive due to the whole supply and demand issue.

Does anyone know for sure if an alloy will / won`t fit in the boot space, I had a 235/35x19 in my vectra, as I didn`t trust the foam, and it fitted in the hole with a squeeze !! I would like to replace the spacesaver with an alloy so when I am away the wife wouldn`t have to get a new tyre sorted if she had a puncture ?

a full size alloy won't fit in the wheel well. Diameter wise it will be fine but will protrude above the base level of the boot.

Suppose there's no reason why you can't make up some foam to pack out the rest of the boot floor around the full size alloy.

Important thing it to make sure you get the wheel-brace, jack and locking wheelnut key. Originally our car came with the foam and compressor but got the spare and toolkit with the deal when we bought the car. The dealer gave the impression that the toolkit was an extra which would not normally be there with the foam/compressor

I was told by the dealer that a replacement raised boot floor is available to fit a full sized wheel in the spare wheel well. No idea on part numbers though.

A mate has one of those in his MkII Golf and it makes carrying loads a nightmare due to the big hump in the middle of the boot floor.
