Spare wheel

Hi,I wonder if anybody can enlighten me regarding a spare wheel for the Altea, unfortunately my model came only with the can of foam sealer and a pump, and having equired at the local dealers, found their prices to be extortionate.I believe that there are equivalent wheels available through various VAG sites but I`m not sure how to go about it. I really am not concerned as to wether it is a space saver ,steel or alloy (though I do have alloy wheels)type,it`s just that i`m planning to tow a caravan later on and I do not like the idea of having a spare in an emergency.

Rather than go to the expense of locating an OE spacesaver just get hold of a cheap matched steel wheel and a remould or part worn to store in the caravan just for the trip.

Good Idea mjr600, but I`ve finally decided that depending on the foam is OK for me but not for the better half.At least if she is in distress she could call on the assistance of the AA to change the tyre rather than attempt the fiddly foam option. So this is going to be a more permanent decision.

Spare Wheel options for Altea

Hi Trev,
Just had the 2 nd burst tyre on the Altea both occasions wife driving on M74??
Both times tyres Knackered by nail or driving so foam not an option.:(
Have had to rely on goodwill of AA to get her to a tyre place and back.

Foam is useless in this situation and she has lost 4 hours working time to fix not including the "DANGEROUS" time spent on hardshoulder.[:@]

So methinks i will be buying a spare wheel etc.
What are the best options or do you have to accept the high cost SEAT solution???:help:

Methinks I`m going to have to bite the bullet and buy a space saver after all Bidey.I have been enquiring on the net over the last month as to wether an equivalent full size is available from the Volkswagen group of vehicles, with the hope that I would be able to pick one up from a breakers yard for next to nothing.(and to think people call you Scots careful with their pennies!!,us Welsh can give you fellow Celts a run for your money!!LOL)By the way, no luck on that particular front either as yet,but will keep you posted. I was in the same situation as you regarding the stupid squirty foam. I got hold of a spacesaver wheel & tyre from a mk5 Golf off ebay for £45 complete, it is worth keeping an eye open, they do come up reasonable frequently

Spare wheel costs

Given these prices

For a standard 16'' spare wheel you need a tool kit at £10.25, 16'' wheel £42.71 and the floor covering £84.00
For a space saver wheel you need a tool kit at £7.11, space saver 50.91 and the floor covering £84.00.

Please note using a full-size wheel will result in loss of boot space and the wheels don't come with tyres.

Both options will fit your car, all these prices are retail so you'll get the 10% discount off those prices +VAT

Not sure why you need tool kit and no idea of cost of tyres which are extra??:cry:
