Sony CDX-DAB6650 Help

Newbie here,

I have just taken delivery of one of these here Sony DAB HUs.

I am aware that my LC has a powered aerial

The unit came with a DAB / FM splitter filterto connect it to the normal aerial.

In the installation manual with the HU it states that if connected to a power aerial this aerial needs a relay box.

So my question is, do any of you know if the Leon aerial has a relay box?

Hi StackEd, 3 Months on and I guess you've sorted your aerial dilemma???I've just ordered a CDX-DAB6650 and I've got a Leon FR Diesel so I've got the challenge of fitting it ahead of me...Just wondered what you thought of the head unit, is it as good as you expected? Worse/better - any things/tips I should be forewarned of?

I have certainly fixed it, sadly it cost me a little more than expected but this is what i had to do.

Head unit was fitted with no problems after getting the fascia adaptor mounted. I tried out the filter but to no avail and info from other sources informed me that i had to get a DAB specific aerial. After looking around i went for the gold plated version. Got mine from Blue Spot, the Blaupunkt diplex one that receives FM and DAB. I did this 'cos i often end up driving in the wilds and so want the best chance of picking up the signal .

This aerial comes with two leads, one for FM and one for DAB and so i had to run the DAB line from the roof down to the HU, down the left side of the roof and down the nearside pillar which is where the original fit FM runs. This wasn't too bad and then to get the last section into the HU you need to pop the end cover off the dash (like the fuse box cover on the driver's side), attack the four or five torx bits and once they're off then you should be able to gently lower the glovebox so you can run the lead behind it and into the back of the HU.
This sounds painful but a careful approach and a spot of patience should see oyu done in under two hours for everything.
You do need to swap the switched power supply, just make sure you push the bullet connector home and cover it up properly with th insulation. I didn't quite and managed to blow the fuse, which gave me a few scary moments before i sussed it was the fuse.

PS - Its been a superb unit, excellent reception even into the wilds of Wales.

Thanks for the tips, the stereo arrived today and it comes with its own DAB aerial (yours didn't I take it?). Just need to get myself a fascia adapter and I'll be having a crack at installing it over the weekend. I'll let you know how I get on....

Well, its all done! I have to say it all went pretty smoothly...obviously routing the DAB aerial through the innards of the dashboard was a bit of a swine, but it works beautifully. I'm really chuffed with head unit, the DAB reception is good, the sound quality excellent, and I can plug my MP3 player into as well - cool. Cheers for the advise.
