haha, you may laugh but here's what's happened...

At some lights I put it into 3rd instead of 1st and tried to pull away (not too hard) and the car just kinda died.
It feels like the exhaust has blown. similar to a previous car when the center section seperated.
I now have a very shuddering LCR with no power that feels like it is choking.
The exessive pollution warning light is now on and there is a wierd smell filling the car a bit like petrol but not.
Finally home, after driving at 15mph for the last 1/2 mile I noticed a little smoke coming out the back from the exhaust.

Any ideas?
Had a look under the car and no obvious parts of the exhaust are caput but could be wrong.
No pipes have come off under the bonnet either I don't think.

Something has definately gone but would like to know if you think it may be safe to drive it to a garage?:help:

Not that loud really.
I had that happen on my Mk2 beezer and yes it was loud.
It is a bit louder now but the main thing is when I put the throttle down it just shudders and feels like it is just about to stall (all the time)

when you tried to pull away did the car lurch or judder heavly? i once killed a maf one morning when abs caused vibration/lurching. easy thing to check , run the engine with the maf cable unplugged..if alls good youve a knackered maf.

but only if your confident about running the engine.. id have a good look around if you can smell petrol.. dont want the car standing in a puddle of petrol

if the maf is dead then the fueling will be out hence the possible smell? but when mine went i dont recall any smell or smoke?

hows it idling? what colour is the smoke? any noise?

traumapat - I think it just juddered, I thought it was stalling and seemed like when you flood the engine.

My guess is exhaust but will check that... I don't know which cable is the MAF though sorry.
It it easy to spot with a simple explanation?

Cheers for your ideas guys... difficult as I am not so savvy with the engine side of things.

do a search on here in case anyones had similar symptoms and pics of mafs ect..

but if you follow the air intake from your air filter towards engine youll find an electrical connection unplug it ... have a look at post 66
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=101577&highlight=maf+connector&page=4

where his green cone filter can just be seen youll have an airbox.

unplug the connector and see if its better. if it runs fine its proberly that. if its worse or makes no difference then your mafs ok.

do you know anyone with vag-com? might be worth checking for fault codes..

you jinxed me :( i was coming home from a friends tonight, pulled away normal, drove normal the correct speed, then all of a sudden the "diagnosis/Excess of pollution" light came on and the car started juddering and loss of power, seems like the same prob, but without pulling of in 3rd, how much are exhausts theses days for a lcr ? if it is that prob. and what about coil packs? can anyone answer theses quick questions, how much does a vag test cost? and if it is coil packs what price am i looking at to get them replaced by a garage. REALLY don't need this, just paid £450 car insurance, £120car tax, £380 on 4 tyres, £40 m.o.t due this month as well!!! as well as £900 council tax :censored: credit cards taken a beating and done non stop over time for the last 8weeks!!!:wtf:

you could both do with someone local with vag com.... seat charge 40-50 i think but its been ages since ive used dealers. there used to be a section here where you could request vag com.... have a look under the main forum?

mafs an £80 ish exchange, coilpacks are about £20 each although never had to replace mine.

not heard of anybody killing there zorst by pulling off in 3rd:shrug:

some people have had coil packs pop up... check there all snug and level.

either of you near brighton?

thanks for info, i'm a bit out the way in hertfordshire, think i might take it to the garage and get it serviced at the same time but i might get a VAG done before so i know the problem, in case they try and con me :p

Shamoo - seems very similar mate.
Got mine to the garage now, they had a listen and a smell...
suggested it may be the cat that has gone.

Will see on monday.

took mine to the garage, they did the VAG com, replaced the spark plugs and replace 1 coil plug which had broke, all for £160
it drove great and was well chuffed, THEN coming home it happened again!!! :wtf:
is it better to change them all or go back and find out which 1 is broken again? is it common for this to happen after 1 has broke?

they saw you coming there didn't they.

once one coil starts to go, the others will follow (next to it) - plugs are about £40, coils are warrantee (still!)

You could have changed all 4 coils yourself (which will have fixed & future proofed the problem) for less than you've paid.

Dom, Sounds like one of the boost pipes may have come off or may be the intake pipe between m.a.f and turbo has come off or split.
I would have a good look at all your pipe work e.t.c before going for a catalyst.
Jochen.

i rang up a seat dealer before hand and they quoted me £90 just for the vag com, the car is not under warranty anymore, so i thought that price was pretty good, but now i know how to change the coil plugs i'll do the others myself, £25 each i got them for.

Hi,
Depending on model, most ignition coils have a five year or 100,000 mile warranty.
All dealerships should be aware of this, but can only change the faulty one, not all of them.
Jochen.
