Something catching..?

When i'm moving slowly i can hear what sounds like something catching as the wheels rotate.

The noise goes then comes back, goes then comes back. As if the dust plate behind the disk is catching on part of the disk. But i've checked that and from what i can see it's clear.

I've had the car in the air and simply spun the wheel and i can't replicate the noise.

Has anyone had anything similiar?

Cheers

I've got similar from drivers side, not sure if its a bearing, but i think its possibly a slightly warped disk. As the brakes squeek a little, when i go very slow.

I have a slight squeek when going really slow and applying the brakes.

But my disks and pads are brand new.

Could it be lack of copper grease behind the pads??

All cupra tend to make a noise when reversing, i know Leon Cupra's/R's do this as well going by the threads in the Leon area of the forum

When I replaced my disks and pads I also had a squeak that wasn't there before. I took them all back off and used more grease.. still squeaks... even a year later, still squeaks...

my conclusion in my case is cheap pads.. which they were. DS2500s next time.

Does it do it when applying light pressure on the brakes at the same time?
Is it only in a staight line or does it do it more so if cornering one way or the other?
If you're lowered with bigger wheels are you sure there's no catching on the inner arch?
Wheel bearings would likely make more noise (grinding) when put under load through corners.
If you're running standard calipers it might be worth while cleaning and regreasing the sliders on the caliper. Or at least check they're not clogged up or seized.
Rear calipers have a tendancy or seizing, I've been through a couple of sets on the rears of my Ibiza.

Right still having problems with this..

My mechanic thinks it's warped disks. When the car is off the ground and we rotate the wheel, it will get harder to pull around then ease off again.

The noise seems more apparent after coming to a stop after motorway speed and setting off again. Let it also be known the noise can sometimes not be apparent what so ever.

With only a slight press of the brake pedal the noise dissapears, and under heavy braking i feel no juddering or vibrations through the pedal or steering wheel.

The disks on my car are very expensive, i am very reluctant to replace them to then find out it is something else.

Any further help appreciated.

Cheers

thought I would bring this thread to life again..
have just taken my ibiza to (please dont laugh) HI Q garage to get the 4 wheel alignment service they offer. unfortunately my front wheels were toeing out rather a lot and it turns out the passenger side track/steering rod was ever so slightly bent and both sides were a little rusty. so like a mug I agreed to have BOTH sides steering arms and ends replaced by them and then the tracking done as I just wanted it done and coudlnt be bothered ringing around!

anyway got the car back this evening and the guy there said something about the front right caliper being slightly seized. I swear there was nothing wrong with it when I took it in to them - and I'm sure they have done something to it as now it makes a scraping noise like your guys have discussed above.

Before I go back kicking and screaming - what could they have done to it. Do you need to remove the caliper in order to fit new steering rods?

any advice greatly appreciated!

cheers,
steve

They would just take the caliper off at the most.

Just strip them down, clean and grease them up, and rebuild, see what happens then.

I think mine was a sticking caliper.
