The line around each gauge was definitely begging for this mod. I got a bit of encouragement from a chick on a Finnish SEAT board who painted this same bit (albeit in candy apple red and dipping the whole part in paint). So from her I learned how to disassemble the instrument cluster and last weekend started the project.

Is there a guide for dissassembling the instrument cluster?

No, haven't seen any at least. But here's a quick one: Undo the four screws of the gauge cluster "frame" bit. You can find two of them on each side of the steering column and two on the "ceiling" of the "frame". Notice that the ones on the bottom are torx screws and the other two are normal phillips type or something. After removing the "frame", you'll find four screws holding the cluster itself, two just above the steering column and two above the cluster. Undo those and the cluster will come out just a bit. The bit with the four round holes for the gauges is attached to the cluster with six small torxes. I couldn't pull the cluster out, so I had to just take a torx head and by holding the head in my fingers had to undo the screws. Possible, but VERY tricky. Apparently the cluster comes out only after taking the steering column cover off. That should give the cluster enough space.

Do you have to bend the "frame" part to get it out of the hole as its kept in by the large piece of plastic that surrounds the dash and air vents?

Oh, forgot to mention that after undoing the screws, there are still clips holding the bit. So you have to pry them off, but there's no fear of breaking anything.
