In this warm/hot weather, my car seems to feel sluggish. First time I have driven a diesel in the summer and I am quite surprised it has affected the car as much as it has.

Anyone else got the same problem? Like a 1.8T Leon, will cutting vents in the wheel liner help the intercooler to help it cool and improve things?

i noticed it a few weeks back when the temp reached 25 degrees, my car went into limp mode twice wouldn't accelerate past 75 and intake temps were 95 degrees,

Now i have the forge FMIC and my intake temps don't go above 40 degrees and its like driving in the winter even when its 30 degrees outside,

So you have tired the usual driving with and without the MAF connected then?

No, not done that. I have driven a car with a knackered MAF and this is like that. Turbo is spinning as it should .... just less torquey!

FMIC ... that would be nice but I cannot justify the cost for the sake of a couple of months fine weather :(

Not sure whats wrong with the car,or even what you said in the posts - that avatar keeps dustracting me! :D

I would say you may be suffering from heatsoak - if performance is better on cooler nights, this should affirm that theory.

Dodgy MAF usually kills the boost all togother when its on the way out.

Is the air-conditioning on? The compressor will be cutting in more frequently as the weather gets hot, sucking power from the engine: depends on speed, but could be 10 bhp at higher revs

ummm ... yesterday was bad - down on power, fuel economy was terrible! Normally average at 49 - 50 mpg. Yesterday, it was struggling 43 mpg and everytime I accelerated, the average figure would tumble.

Today will be as bad I think.

Amazing that VAG place the intercooler where it is. It needs better airflow, I am sure these engines need to work in climates hotter than the UK!

Have you tried the pikey wheel arch liner vent mod?
What is this exactly, is it just a case of cutting slits in the plastic and angling them with the aid of a heat gun ?

Or is there a better way of fitting some kind of grille ?

Unlike the Ibiza, the Passat doesn't have a vented liner. Having said that, logging the temps with vag-com suggests it still gets better airflow than the Ibiza did - couldn't break 60degC, although ambient was only 10degC.

yeah i must say ive noticed it too, just seems a bit less torquey, all due to the higher temps though. damn that fine weather!

i tried that on mine and with MAF disconnected it would'nt even boost at all, is that normal
