what head unit are you going for cinq?

do the cables you bought plug straight into the seat ones or is there any chopping to do?

ive still had no reply from my dealer and the local ice shop said they can only get the left hand drive ones, which i find odd seen as ive never a seen a left hand drive one, never mind in this bloody country ha!

I'm using the head unit i bought a year ago for my prev car, it's white/blue lit rather than red, but i like it too much to ditch it. Here's the info on it Sony MEX-BT500

As for the cables, I'm assuming it's a straight swap, but won't know til i take the existing unit out and I'm not doing that until i've got all the parts to finish the job off properly, so will post back when I've done it...

Ive just installed that in my mini, had it in the smart car before and there a good head unit, although the sound quality out of the mdx 690 was better

Finally got round to installing the radio on Sunday, will take some pics when i get chance if you want...

The actual cabling was no problem at all and the steering controls all work with the exception of the preset up/down on the left hand side. The only other function missing is the speed step on the volume, although that is down to the head unit rather than the cabling as there is a wire there for it, but I haven't looked into whether Sony units support this.

The cage for the radio was a very tight fit into the double din adapter, but apart from that the physical part of the install was pretty plain sailing.

Wow cant wait to see the pics Cinq, ive ordered my fascia from seat, gonna get the next few bits and a stereo in a few weeks i think, although i might "borrow" the Sony from the mini though seen as i use the leon all the time :)

Looks great cinq, is it possible to have the tray at the bottom so that the stereo is higher up?

Ive got to go pick my sat nav fascia up from richard alexander in huddersfield

You probably could have the stereo higher as there is no difference between the hole sizes, although you may need something to support the back of stereo to stop it pulling down on the surround.

As for the sound... Much better than the stock radio, haven't ramped the volume up to max, but have gone loud enough for me and no distortion at all :)
