does a "oil temp" guage (pillar mounted), monitor the same thing that there is on your dash next to your petrol guage...if so, whats the point in getting a pillar mounted one?

The temp gauge on your dash isn't an oil temp, it's a water temp gauge. This is all well and good, but oil temperature is the key thing you want to pay attention to. That, and oil pressure.

cheers robm, so saying that...if i was to get a oil temp guage, and a oil pressure guage (both pillar mounted), when they both reach optimum point, its safe to put my foot down a fair bit?

Definitely. The water temp goes up pretty quick, but oil takes a fair bit longer. It's always safe to let this get right up to temp before giving your car some stick. And unfortunately, without the gauges like you're looking at, all you can do is guess.

Oil pressure isn't something you need to wait for as much, it's just something you keep an eye on from a diagnostic point of view. If it starts dropping a lot, slow down and start worrying!

Boost and oil temp (if I can find one) will be what I go for as they are the most useful.

Looking like I may only go with boost though.
