Silver Indicator Bulbs

I used to have some in my old Cavalier, they were exactly the same as normal bulbs but with a silver finish. They weren't LED bulbs, so no warning light. They looked good on clear indicators though, no 'fried egg' look.

I can't remember where I got them from, I suspect it might have been Halfrauds. But you're talking many years ago in my wasted youth...

Bulbs are bulbs, they won't bring up a warning light - The reason that LED bulbs bring up a warning light is that there isn't much resistance across an LED c/w a bulb element, so the car doesn't think there's a bulb there/ the element is blown and it brings on the warning light.

I was going to say it's only LED bulbs that cause the warning to come on, the silver bulbs are bog standard filament bulbs. No problems at all.

Claire has them SC16, see which ones she's got if you're still stuck. May sound stupid, but what do they silver bulbs do?

They're designed for use with clear indicator lenses. If you use a traditional orange bulb, you end up with an orange centre inside the clear indicator lens, hence the 'fried egg' look. A silver bulb maintains the clear effect, but still lights orange when required.

Both front and side indicators can benefit from the silver bulbs, the rear clusters are normally multicoloured so there's no point in using them there.

Make sure the pins are 120 degrees apart, NOT the 180 deg ones!!

Nice cheap mod that makes all the difference to thelights. Now, get the back ones done :)

Bought the Halfords ones at the weekend, £12 couldn't be arsed to wait for delivery from autobulbs lol. Tidied up the rear, no more fried eggs :funk:
