Side Skirts

I've got an FR Tdi in red coming on March 3rd, and am considering having the side skirts put on before delivery. Only problem I've got is that it would cost £350 for supply, painting and fitting.

What do you guys think? Is it worth having them put on? Has anyone here had them on the FR? Any pics?

mmmmmm.......they do look rather sexual. They finish the car off nicely I think. I've asked the dealer if he'll do them for £300, so I should hear back tomorrow hopefully. Think it's worth it, but I aint paying full price!!!

I think it's worth it. Not the cheapest mod, for sure, but it adds so much to the looks I think it's worth every penny.

I gave in today and ordered them so they'll be on my car when I pick it up....
Was umm-ing and arrr-ing about them all day yesterday then decided I couldnt have the Leon without them - it makes it look like pure automotive p0rn!

So £350 is the "going rate" for the side skirts supplied, painted and fitted and this is done by the Seat main dealer?
Just to confirm these are the side skirts from the Aero kit (as fitted in full to some FR's of late)?

Yeah, looks like £350 is the standard rate. Mine are going to be fitted by a main dealer before collection :)

TBH I think they look ace, the lines and curves follow the lines across the side of the car, both curving in the same direction. I think if you turned them around it'd spoil the lines on the bodywork.

Damn insurance company

Looks like i'm not getting my side skirts :(

Called my insurance company today to organise a vehicle changeover now I have my 07 reg plate, and they told me they wouldnt insure me with the side skirts on the car. Tried a few other places, and theyre all the same. Must be cos I'm under 25.

Managed to talk to another more helpful person at my insurer who spoke to their supervisor and got them to agree to insure me with the side skirts on as Im 24 and have been with them for 4 yrs, but for the extra sum of a whopping £225!!!! I'm sorry, but f**k that!

How come I can put any spoiler on (if i wanted to) or make the car look like a total chav-charriot by putting Lexus-styleee lights on, which involves playing about with the wiring, but I can't have side skirts?

Only good point is that I've saved £350 by not having them.......I hate insurance companies.

sorry to hear that, but why did you tell them, its a seat option, if you specked sat nav would you have told them?,as far as i can see its a seat option just like bigger rims i doubt very much if anyone on here has told there insurance they have speked the 18" rims and have a winter pack fitted (hope you get my drift). But if it was a aftermarket kit there could be problems.Insurance companys do my head in always on the make:censored:

Exactly, the question they normally ask is "is it changed from the manufacturers specification?" the answer is no, its all manufactures kit!

I'm with Privilege, told them about the 18" rims, convience pack, bluetooth etc as they asked about modifications, as they are manufactuer options they don't affect policy so no extra costs. I'd go back to your insuarance company and tell them they seat optional extras not aftermarket bits and see what they say.

Well they asked whether it includes any optional extras .... I told them about the 18's, and it didnt change the price. It just seems to be other mods that they dont like :(

Really not happy with my ins company any more, but cant get a cheaper quote from anyone else at the mo, and no1 else will touch my car with side skirts. Yeah, fair enough, I could just not tell them, but if anything happened and anyone picked up on it, theyd definitely use it to nullify my policy, especially on a £17-£18k car.

TBH i think it's down to my age..... they said if i were over 25 it wouldnt be a problem..... I'll give em another go tomorrow. It's not as if they're chavved up side skirts, theyre pretty discrete, and I explained that they'd be installed by Seat before delivery.

Think I may just give up, and blow the money I was gona spend on them by buying a private number plate. Seen L30N SF (my initials) for £250 on the DVLA site. Tempting, but it has the sort of "showroom / pretentious pr**k" look to it....

Had same problem trying to explain to my insurance about my ref sport with aero kit. Wanted to charge stupid money but I explained it was a factory fit option and came like that in the end they charged for a rear spoiler  £50 I couldn't be bothered to argue with the idiot.

I agree. I certainly didn't tell my insurers (Bell Direct) about my 18" wheels because in my opinion it was delivered to me like that, and is therefore manufacturers spec.
Wish I'd thought of that earlier, cos I want the skirts and spoiler now.
