Should you buy a cupra: yes. Why: They are amazing cars if you treat them well, rapid when you want them to be, but sophisticated and comfortable also. It could be fine but I would look for a lower mileage than 110k. I've never driven a cupra r, but the normal cupras are well worth looking at too, they are amazing fun.

If you want one then buy one. Great cars and are very enjoyable. Tho they do have their faults like all other cars. 3.5 k for one that old with that mileage , I think is a bit high. Does it have service history? What state is it in ?
Personally I hate vauxs, but then that's a personal pref. if your happy with what you know then stick with it. If you want a change then the Lcr is a good choice. Just be careful with what you buy. These cars are now becoming very cheep to buy , and many have been abused. Take a look at the seat for sale section and see what's on there. Will give you a idea of what to look out for and what sort of money you will spend for what age/ condition/ you will get for your money.

Good luck in finding what your looking for.

The thong is i have owned vectra b all my life the 2.6 gsi being my best one so i dont really know any other cars and the vectra c 2.0 turbo are hard to find and the 1.8 os underpowered so my workmate mentiond the cupra r so started looking into them. Problem being i live just south of glasgow and theres only really 3 around my price range and 2 being mapped so not much to choose from. Should i try get a standard one or one that been mapped

Shouldn't matter if its mapped or not, just make sure theirs plenty of history on the car. I bought mine standard simply because it had full SEAT service history, had all its recalls and has the recaro seats. These cars a different ball game to the Vectras, my dad had a 2.2 SRI Vectra B and it was a nice example but my LCR is simply a massive step from that.

Do some research in the FAQ area as there is a check list on what to check when looking at a car. For that sort of money it would have to be from a trader with a proper warranty!

I paid £3400 for my 2004 225 with 110 on the clock. Its proper tidy with FSH so the one you are looking at does seem on the high side

Anyone that gets there nipples in s twist about having to shell out on a bit of money for a few faults is thinking about motoring the wrong way, cars have things to fix and parts that wear out this is life nothing lasts forever, the key thing is are these things consumables and wear and tear.... In my experience I've never had an issue with any mechanical part, is that because I'm mechanically minded and the car gets treated very well? Possibly but essentially it's how you treat any car.

In answer to your question these cars in my experience are hugely reliable and put up with hard spirited driving, are very well complimented spec wise, lets not forget the very high demand forbthe cupra r when it came out, dealerships were packed when the cupra r was launched and they had a better driving review than s3's of the same year, great build quality, desirable looks, these cars are amazing I'd buy one again and again... Certainly better than all the cars you've mentioned as I have driven them all.....

You can't really compare a LCR against a vectra even a gsi. LCR is a way better car. For 3.5k can get you a nice one if your patient. Just make sure it's not due any major services. My mate bought a 2003 for 3.3k then had to spend 1k on rubber, clutch and a service.

Yeah o do have to ask though cos you got to start somwhere and im not really comparing between a vectra and a leon cos they are so diferent in many way what about when you mention major services etc whats needing done and when . I always do my own oil changes and repairs so that helps

Well said, sir.

And in addition to the Captain's wise words, IMHO this sums up the LCR:

Each summer I drive an LCR into deepest rural France. On the autoroute at 'brisk speeds' it feels planted and serene, the chairs are comfortable, the stereo is audible, the engine note is not too frantic and the climate control is a blessing. In short, it's a relaxing and mighty swift long-distance cruiser.

Once the destination is reached and we've unpacked, the LCR is perfect for B-road hooning in the deserted French countryside. It's also handy for collecting friends/relatives and their luggage from airports/stations.

Then, for the return journey, the rear seats are folded and the car's loaded with cases of vino from the local vineyards - and we have another relaxing and swift autoroute blast.

Basically, an LCR is a bloody good all-rounder.

What a great description.. Sounds an amazing drive :) and indeed sums up these cars perfectly, the whole package is great, the base car is perfect but also makes a fantastic platform for whatever direction you choose to take on your path to perfection with your LCR / LC :)

Cheers, it is :)

It's also good to get an LCR onto roads for which its steering is setup - ie, for the right-side's camber - you can take your hands off the wheel and it'll just steer arrow straight

And when I had OEM Pirellis, they were awesome during French summers - ie, P-0s are at their best when temps are over 32degC :smoke:

I came from a modded V6 Vectra to an Octavia VRS, 1.8t cheaper and more tuneable, fit and finish a lot better, handle better out of the box, found both to be reliable with similar running cost, the only thing I miss about the Vectra is the noise a tuned V6 makes.
