oil
oil filter
brake fluid
visual inspection

dont go to seat, go to a small vat registered independant, or a skoda garage, either will be ok for your warranty

Hi

Im not so fussed about it going direct to SEAT because we have a trade account with them so i can get the service for £160 all in from the seat dealer in hastings (st leonards on the ridge). Most the independant garages are still around £130-£150 so Id rather spend the extra £10, get it done quickly and by a company I know, trust and have dealt with before.

I was just wondering exactly what they do, because Ive been told (my list so far) is ...

Oil Change
Oil Filter
Pollen Filter
Brake Fluid
Power Steering Fluid
Visual Check (Brakes, Pipes, Tyres etc)

Anything else? Apparantly it lasts for 10k miles or a year ...

Ah

Well I just took the easy route and phoned up the SEAT dealer and they informed me the following items are checked/replaced/repaired if needed (age, levels, mileage)

Engine Flush
Oil & Oil Filter
Spark Plugs
Air Filter
Cabin Air Filter & Pollen Filter (if fitted)
Brake Fluid
Power Steering Fluid
Coolant
Anti Freeze Levels
Headlight Beams & Other Lights
Visual check of cambelt, fan belt, leaks (coolant/oil), Tyres and brakes

Seems like quite a big list actually, more than what I initially thought they did.

Did the dealership tell you what is replaced and what is checked.

Mine was £145 for the 30K service. As it is a TDI the service will be slightly different but according to the service book 30K or 3rd year service is only oil & filter and visual inspection of fluids etc.

The 40K or 4 year service is a biggie, oil, filter, air filter, pollen filter, coolant and brake fluid change and a visual inspection of the car

Finn,

It was a general description of service work they carry out, not truely specific to any particular car mainly because when I phoned them I didnt tell them what car I had! I just asked what the steps were for a service and that was the full list. They check all on that list if applicable for the car putting it quite simply.

In my local dealership the prices of the services between diesel and petrol are differernt and also what they do is different depending what fuel the car runs on.

The dealer should have asked what your car runs on before telling you what is done in a service!!

In respect to the actual service list, to my knowledge, all that is actually changed is the oil and oil filter at 30K. I can check my fluid levels by lifting the bonet. I reckon £220 for a 30k service is taking the pi$$

And as I stated, Im not paying £220 :) Im paying £160.

They offer two services one is £120+VAT, the other is £185+VAT. Now normally at 30k they offer the £120 service which is just oil, filter and washer fluid HOWEVER because there has been a gap longer than a year since the last service it really needs a full service, which I have checked with SEAT direct (not the dealer) and this is correct due to warrenty issues (allowed 4 weeks late or so I was informed, this is 7 weeks overdue even though mileage is correct)

So in essence your looking at a full service which is the £185+VAT or £217 service carried out on the vehicle in order to keep it with SEAT policies for the warrenty. Also I dont know how many of you are aware but you have to fill in a form when you buy a second hand seat car in order to transfer the seat warrenty and recovery contracts ...

I have just re rang the SEAT dealer and the only difference between the diesel and the petrol services they operate is the checking of the glow plugs or spark plugs depending on the engine type, the rest (oil, filters, fluids) are all the same. They use a generic SEAT provided checklist and run down the list and depending if the item is applicable for the car depends if it is checked or not.

Not a lot else I can really say as this is all that ive been told from SEAT and the SEAT Dealer ...
