hi Guys, hope someone out there can advise me on service and MOT issue.

Just a brief background on the car.

Its a 65 plate Leon, registered Sept 2015. It was owned by a SEAT Manager. I bought it at 5 months old and 3K mileage

The dealer did first service at this point - Feb 2016 - 3050 miles
Second service done - Feb 2017 - 11657 miles
So is third service due Feb 2018? But this will throw out the Mot which is due September 2018
Car has done 20k miles

Is there anything I can do to straighten things back up. I'm on a service plan with Seat so there all covered but not in Sync if you know what I mean.

Is there anyone on the forums that work for Seat that could give me the official line on what to do and what would you guys do?

Thanks for any advice.

how can you sync them? if service is due every 10k and you do 5k a month then they wont match lol

The only way I see it they are synced is a. if you buy the car new and b. you do 10k miles or less a year like mine. Registered as first owner 7th. March 2014 so as I do around 6k a year service and mot are due at the same time i.e. first week in March each year.
Remember service is due at 10k miles or 1 year whichever comes first

I only do 7-8k miles a year so the 1st service was done at a year old, then every year from then. So when the mot comes up so does the service. I can't be alone in this surely?

To the Op if day speak to the dealer, personally though with your low mileage I'd delay the service so they sync up.

By leaving the service the remaining warranty which does not run out until Sep 2018 will be lost so probably not a good idea. Just have to put up with it.

Cheers for responses. I guess i'll just have to suck it up and have them different periods in year :(
I have always had them synced before but then my last 3 cars were from new so it fitted.

I don't do more than 10k a year so that's not an issue. I certainly don't want to lose any warranty until Sept 2018 as sods law means something goes wrong around the three year mark that would have been covered in warranty!!

In theory what the dealer did wrong is service it early far too early!!!

The only way to bring it back would have been to service it again at one year old after the one in Feb, or service it Feb and Sept in it's second year, or next month plus with MOT in sept.

But this would have/will cost you an extra service and take up and extra space I the book. Making four in total at three years.

I am fussy about three things and when I have bought used cars before have asked then not to service if it was to put it out of sync to the 10k or yearly service.

If they have already done it (some have this policy) then it's too late.

It's an unwritten rule I think that to keep warranty it is best to service within 1000 miles or one month of service due miles or date.

Having too many services won't!

I too had a former Seat Management car.

Registered Sept 2013

I got it Nov 2014 @ 2248 miles.

They serviced it at this point. I did enquire, what's the point of servicing it @ 2248. They said as it's going to a new customer (eg. me). They have to service it (change oil etc).

I guess they might have waiting to do it's 1st year service the minute someone got the car.

Had another service @ Dec 2015 @ 6000 miles

MOT @ Sept 2016 @ 8.5k miles

Returned car in Nov 16 @ 10k miles.

Service would have been due Dec 16.

So yea, it probably would have got 4 services before 12k miles. oops...

Completely out of sync for me, however as they were providing 2 complimentary services, I didn't make any fuss.

MOT is due @ the 3 year birthday of the car so to speak, regardless if it's on long life (once every 2 years / 20k miles) or 1 year / 10k miles.

They did say on the phone it's ok to service it up to 1 month or 1k past the 'recommended' period. No problem.
