hi everyone, i have a seat leon fr tdi 57 plate 170
i had it 2 weeks dpf blocked up and car went into limp mode :/
so thought i would get the dpf removed and get it remapped.. because
i was going to get remapped anyways.

the guy what did it for me was a local private guy in my area had a good rep, did a good job, great torque..power
ect got it up 210 bhp. the next day i started to smell a strong diesel/oil smell and
the car smokes when stationary its a blue/white kind of smoke..when the cars warmed the smoke reduces slightly but is still visible.. also when the car is cold when putting foot down the power from the turbo jolts.. but after a few miles it smooths out? :S

i was thinking rather the stem seals are leaking

the turbo seals are leaking

the remap didnt go well

or the oil is to thin and it is getting through the seals??
cause the garage i bought it serviced it them selfs??maybe using cheap oil

whats your thoughts guys??

PD170?

These engines are a pain in the rear to tune, there are very few people who can actually tune these properly so i would look at the mapping straight away.

Or maybe they used decent oil for cars with dpf's, which now yours doesn't and therefore might be causing the smoke, have you checked your dipstick recently, I found after having the dpf off that I burnt through the existing oil very quickly

Darkside Developments, Shark Performance or R-T3ch

You will have to travel im afraid as i said this engine isn't like the rest hence by companies like REVO,APR wont touch it.

I had my PD170 DPF Delete done by JBS/Custom Code and then two years later had it re-tuned by Shark and was happy with the re-tune

Look at mine, Kilner and Wee G's threads

So you think after a mapped it with shark performance it should sort it?

just a note for future its probably best you don't 'put you foot down' from cold, wont do your engine any good at all. as for the blue smoke as you know this indicates your burning oil, other than failing turbo seals/bearings its possible that who ever mapped it before didn't do it correctly and the car injector was still injecting a small amount of engine oil to regen the non existing DPF???

i had my dpf removed and remapped by shark, after a few weeks i couldn't live with the amount of smoke and a filthy back bumper so at great expense has dpf refitted and standard software installed. they did try to tweek it but when you imagine a diesel engine producing 170bhp to begin with your not going to be able to get much more out of it without it smoking like ray mears lighting a fire in the woods!

the black smoke now present is the excessive unburnt fuel being injected and not fully burnt, unless your willing to spend £££ on an uprated injector and further mapping your not going to reduce this unfortunately. you could always ask for there stage 0 map, this is OEM+ and as smoke free as you will get it.

I had a stage 2 shark remap on my old pd170 fr tdi

Don't get me wrong it was great for a diesel with plenty of mid range torque available

However it kicked out a huge black cloud of smoke every time I had the throttle flat to the floor, which was quite often.

At times I felt a right prat when I left big clouds behind me.

The downsides of remaps on the pd170's...... That's why I'm back in a petrol turbo again. No soot clouds anymore lol.

Ive got the blue/whitish smoke at idle on mine, had it ever since shark did the map on it. They said it's to do with incorrectly set injectors which happens at the recall. This causes low pressure meaning the Diesel doesn't burn properly resulting in bluish smoke (remember diesel is just oil really).

As for the black smoke, mine was silly when I had it first done by shark 212bhp on the dyno then asked him to back it off after a couple of months so he put a map on that supposedly got about 205bhp and it's fine, just an occasional puff.

Mine started after injector recall too. So would that mean if it went back to seat they could recalabrate them? Just imbarrasing when sitting in traffic

We took it to the dealer that did the recall who said they'll check them but it'll cost if they find they're actually correct. But despite the fact they said they were fine they didn't charge me which is wierd (they're probably just lying about them being right). It does actually still smoke on idle which is likely down to the map but I don't notice it so I don't care.

Tbh it's part and parcel of diesel tuning! Kinda got to live with it! Just turn the air con recirculation in traffic :D
