Hi,

I have just had the faults read on my car and there is a prob with the fuel temp sensor.

Is this costly to replace? Is the sensor in the fuel pump or somewhere else in the engine bay?

Mechanic telling me i might need a new pump to replace the sensor which could be £1000!!!

Can anyone help!!!!

Cheers

fuel temp sensor

Scuse me for my bad English. What kind of engine do you have on your cat, exactly? Need that information to know where is locating this sensor on your engine. If you search on the net with expression "replace the fuel temp sensor", there is a lot of information. For example, on www.myturbodiesel.com is a guy who describes the entire procedure. There is no need to replace entire injection pump. Need just some skills and patience.

Cheers

Fuel temp sensor

Or search on www.tdiclub.com. There is a lot of information.
About your mechanic. This is an extract from a post on. www.tdiclub.com. „What I've learned: 1. Don't take what the dealer says at face value. They are telling you what they are trained to say and what is good for VW (at least in this instance). Dealer said I needed a new Fuel Injection Pump at $1720 + tax, knowing fully what the error code was, and even more likely, what actually needed to be done. Bald-faced lie. 2. This is a VERY simple repair that anyone who can find the injection pump on their car can do, assuming they can follow a simple list of instructions posted on this thread. An oil change on my scooter is actually more complicated. 3. Dieselgeek.com ships their stuff FAST. 4. Researching stuff like this resulted in over a $1700 savings to me. I paid $60 to dieselgeek for the fuel temp sensor, gasket, and metalnerd socket. I paid $22 for the cable. The software was free from ross-tech.com (you don't have to register the software in order to be able to clear an error code producing a check engine light). So, with literally 20min of my time + $82 total for the parts and cable, I was able to avoid a $1720 + tax ($1831.80 to be exact) repair bill. Total savings = $1749.80”.
Cheers.

Watched somebody replace the fuel temp sensor on my TDI 130 (think its similar to your 150 engine apart from the turbo. As above, it is on the front right side of the engine block and took around 2 mins to do. Couple of clips..........

It is mounted in the fuel return line between the camshaft-driven fuel pump and the fuel filter. It's a separate device, not part of the pump or anything else, just mounted in the fuel line.
