Hi,

I was looking as picking up a 1.2 litre Ibiza from 2015 (think it was registered in March).

Does anyone know if this engine is belt or chain driven, I've heard a few stories about chains slipping on these engines.

Thanks,

Thanks, is that the same for the standard TSI Itech model?

I know these had issues but not sure if newer models are fixed.

The I-tech has the same belt drive 16V motor as the FR, but comfy SE suspension and standard bodywork.

Both the 90PS and 110PS engines are belt driven (CJZC and CJZD)

Yes just the 105PS is chain driven in the Ibiza. They switched to the belt EA211 some time in 2015 so I would have assumed that a March 2015 model is the 105PS chain?

I'd expect both the earlier 1.2TSI engines were chain driven, but by 2015 cars, the new engines should be fitted, I'm certainly walk away from a newly reg'd Ibiza from late 2014 on if it had either of the older engines in it.

If in doubt I'd be checking the engine code, or if viewing the car, check to make sure that the turbo is at the rear of the engine and the inlet on the front of the engine, another hint that it has a belt drive is if it has a black plastic cover on the RHS of the engine.

I'd say that document has been last updated back in 2014 during the "2014 model year" period, I started looking into buying my wife a new Polo or Ibiza in February 2015, and all that I was reading and seeing was the 1.2TSI 16V engines, the old ones had gone, though maybe you are referring to old stock that had been lying around for lots of months - and should have been priced as old models to sell off quickly?
