Hi mate, almost certainly the main power/ignition relay under the dashboard IMO. It supplies power to the lights on the dash and i think the ecu/immobiliser etc as well. The fuel pump has it's own relay and the radio and locks don't have a relay, hence why they would all still be working.

http://www.icecavern.com/howtos/leonlowerdashtrim/main.php Thats how you get to them on the leon. Not sure about your motor though.

Also have a look here at the leon relays, http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=278911&highlight=wiper+relay&page=2 i expect you'll have a relay #100 the same as in the pic, that would be my main suspect. GFS/eurocarparts should have one

if it's like the leon then they are under the lower dash panel. Yours comes off like this on your altea.

That would be where i would start. Glow plugs are almost certainly NOT the cause imo. They wouldn't cause you to lose all the light on the dash.

Apart from listening for a click when you turn the ignition on, then no they can be hard to test. If you have no lights on the dashboard but have other electrical things like the starter motor still working, then i can't see it being much else buddy. That shows you have power and that the ignition barrel itself is ok, but without that relay working the injectors and ecu won't be powered up
