Just getting use to my V5, and trying to work out the satnav, under the GPS viewer, it can see 25 odd satalites, but on the recieving it reports 0..
I've got a 2005 cd, which loads up fine etc, can find road names but does take a long time to update the map. Does report that Route has been planned etc.

Are there any firmware updates to the nav unit itself??
how can I find out the current level of updates?

(never used the VAG satnav units before) used to an ipaq+tomtom

thanks for any info.

Interesting that it's reporting 25 satellites. There's only 24 in the sky, so only 1/2 on them should be visible. The most I've ever seen is 9 ...

Are you leaving it long enough to "cold start" - could take up to 15 minutes?

Yep, must be messed up then if theres only 24. Have tried a cold start, driven about 50miles or so, since picking up the car, and turning on/off the unit etc. Tomtom reports around 5-6satalites,hence think the area is fine (west london)

Where is the GPS module located? (in the roof bee-sting ariel? looks slightly bigger than normal)

Is there a "soft" reset? other than disconnecting the battery for 30mins or so.

I have had exactly the same problem on my Sat nav unit, booked it into the dealer and they have ordered a complete new unit which is on back order 4 months and counting!!!!

Anyway when installing my phone kit I removed the unit and unplugged the power and other cables, when I re-installed the unit low and behold the unit works perfectly. This may be worth a try.

Info from another website suggested that this problem can be caused due to the ariel not being grounded properly, but did not try this as I got it working.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input, I was thinking along those lines. Very unlikely to be the main unit, more the external ariel.

How do I remove the unit? Any tips appreciated.

I had the same issue on my Leon a few months ago, my GPS viewer reports 28 sats available, but was reporting 0 receiving, it usually reports 8 or so received. After a few trips to the dealer, they traced it to a faulty connection on the cable where it joins the antenna on the roof, they replaced the cable and now it's working fine. Wasn't a HU problem.

Me too.

Suddenly stopped recieving GPS for a few weeks. Dealer checked all connections at the back of the HU to be OK. Was going to book it back in for a replacement unit, but suddenly started recieving 8 signals again.

Seeing as I have never seen this on the forum before - could it have been a GPS system issue ? Just seems odd that there are quite a few people with this issue all of a sudden !

To correct way to remove the satnav unit you will require 4 x removal keys which are inserted into 4 thin slots at each corner of the sat nav unit (these are hidden by the buttons). You will have to look closely to see the holes if you have not done this before.

You can also do this by shaping a thin piece of plastic like a credit card if you do not have the keys, although this is a bit more tricky. It can be done with only two keys and releasing one side at a time but again is more tricky.

You can get the correct keys from Seat, Halfords or e-bay.

yes, i got this fixed, turned out to be a dodgy antenna.. replaced it, and and after a 10-15miles.. it started picking up satalites again, been working great!

to remove the nav unit, the front fascia is a mostly one piece, start by taking out the blanked button cap near the heated rear screen button.. and then down near the cig lighter (its all one piece there).. i'll try and get some pics later.
