Sat Nav Retrofit

Hi, haven't been around these parts in a good long while.

I might be changing to a demo Leon FR and have a question about sat nav. The car doesn't have it fitted but is it possible to retrofit like it was on the old car? Have seen a head unit on fleabay for a good price.

Also, anyone with an Android phone does the radio have wireless playback via bluetooth?

Thanks

yes to the wireless playback, no idea on the headunit, they may well be coded to the car, so possible retrofit but dealer only - I think all the sat nav ones have MS plus as well, which means colour mfd - don't know if you'd get it to work with the black and white one.

I'm not absolutely certain on this, but the user manual for the sat nav unit suggests that each unit is coded to the ignition of the car to which it was first fitted and can't be used in any other vehicle. So I'm guessing that you could only retrofit one if it had never been fitted to another car. It would need to be a factory fresh model I think. I've not heard of anyone having done this mod on a mk3 before, so I'll be interested to see if there is a way to do it! Wouldn't fancy having to reprogramme the entire vcds myself, but you'd have to in order to get it to work, since the media unit in Leons is much more integrated than just a satnav. It talks to every other computer on the car.

Good luck!

to be honest an aftermarket GPS or a good smartphone is more effective in terms of updated maps.
plus you can enjoy both navigation and music...

I know that alright, but I like my gizmos. My current car is a 13 ashtray GTC and I stuck 5k of extras on because I hate blank switches!

I love the one-eye up, one eye down headlights on that, but I'm afraid that look has already been done!
We get a lot of bangers on our unlit country lanes driving around like that. looking for all the world like motor-bikes, especially when it is only the near-side one working. They don't last long though - a 38 tonner usually takes them out.
