Hi all,

I took the plunge and bought one this weekend. I am well happy, I ended up with mfd2 cd version which is good for me as I am going to use my ipod with it.

Thanks for all your advice, all I need now is the bloody car! lol

Ah, well, you can play with the buttons on your satnav, I guess... ;)

Is it a VW or SEAT unit you got?

To be honest mate, i'd prefer butttons.

Its quite distracting to keep looking down at teh unit when going through radio stations.

With buttons, you can just feel your way round it :)

Good guide there Dan!

One question really does the antenna have to go up by the mirror or can it sit in the dash or will the signal be poor there?

Cheers

Apperently, it should be ok under trim, as long as its not covered by metal. But I was a bit dubious and wanted to be sure I got the best possible signal. Plus i couldnt really find a good bit of trim to put it under. But by all means have a look.

I did think that when I read it, think I will just follow the guide and run it up and over. Last question! If I out a cd changer in the back of it will I loose the aux socket? Also does the MFD2 have rca connections?

Cheers

It depends wether the Unit has a seperate AUX and CDC connections. The MFD3 does.

not sure about the rca, doubt it.

why pay £1100-1200 for a slow, not as many functions, OEM unit, when for a bit more you can get one of these units, like I have

http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/products/10/20/241/AVIC-HD3BT/index.html

You get bluetooth, full postcode search, 30GB hard drive (with CDDB to recognise your CD's), DVD player and vehicle dynamics e.g. lateral velocity, voltage, compass direction etc

Matt

have you actually seen the new OEM sat-nav unit?

Cupra averaged 41mpg once

As you say about the MFD3 unit is that you cant put full postcodes in, whereas on the Pioneer unit you can. and you get DVD player, AV in, AUX in, iPod control (with adaptor) vehicle dynamics etc, and you can customise the background picture to display whatever you want(for those of you who want to keep an OEM look). I 'm sure that the MFD3 unit is good, it's just that the Pioneer unit is better in my opinion.

I retro fitted sat nav to my Golf and am about to do the same with my Leon - I bought a cd SEAT version off Fleabay...

With my Golf I put the antenna behind the clocks, there was a steel bar that the magnet liked so I put it there. The signal was always pretty good - I occasionally didn't get a 3d Fix but this was generally in very built up areas which you would expect any way...

In short, I'm gonna try putting it behind the clocks this time as well and see how it goes...

You can now order New Seats in the UK with these units, although they might not actually be ready for production yet??? I'd definately be interested in a Seat one, as the VW causes a small problem with the MFD.
