Set a route today and sat nav didn't show any traffic problems but on the route there was 5 problems (long term) within 50 miles of start point. On another sat nav with a rds traffic receiver showed all 5. Does anybody know how the built in unit gets its traffic info?

In my experience (all be it only 1 month, but ive done a few long trips) the traffic and routing on the sat nav are awful.

I had that on mine, though this isn't very good , so I went into 'congestion ahead' In route (top right on sat nav screen) then adjust 'set length of congestion'
It fixed the problem

Skip that, I was thinking of my mk2 leon sat nav, it fixed it on that, but just tried it in my mk3 and all it seems to do is let you route around congestion immediately in front you ?

That's the problem nothing is showing on the sat nav but on the real road there is. Of the road works I came across the shortest was 1 mile and the longest was 5. All on duel carriage ways 1 lane closed and speed restrictions.

I may be way off here, but might the satnav use your phone via bluetooth to get the traffic updates. I only suggest this as the last time I used mine it did warn me about traffic problems ahead of me and I had my phone connected, may just be coincidence mind.

I thought it took it off rds or somehow via the trafficmaster network. My phone is always connected to it and it hasn't made any difference. I presumed it would automatically re route but haven't managed to get it to do that yet.

The traffic button is pointless in Northern Ireland. In 9 months I've seen it give two traffic reports, neither of which were relevant to me.

Have had a look at the handbook and yes the data is from rds tm signal, so the phone as nothing to do with it. I believe the traffic info is transmitted via classic FM in the UK. It seems strange that the built in sat nav is unable to pick up this info but a Tomtom device in the same vehicle can. Tried it tonight with a old tomtom and it showed all the incident within about 100 mile radius but the seat one nothing, and both are suppose to use the same system. Think a visit to the dealers is coming up.

I think the traffic information is quite good on the satnav and I get some information if I press the Traffic button.

Whilst I haven't used the satnav that much to call it rubbish just yet, it is definitely worse than my 8 years old Medion whose maps have never been updated.

A while ago it took me on a road that I wouldn't even class as a B road. I passed about five horse riders. I also had the pleasure to listening to the sweet Rattles Symphony for about 10 minutes.[:@]

Then a couple of days ago I went to Wembley Arena. I did a street search and it couldn't find the street (Engineers Way). I tried a couple of more streets in the vicinity... Nothing. Then I searched by POI and I found the place... The address that showed on the screen was... Engineers Way!

for most systems that get their info via TMC it means you're at the mercy of a broadcaster sending out a signal every 15 minutes or so which they're not obliged to do. i stopped using this method a few years ago and chose the Live service from TomTom as it updated itself without fail every 2-5 minutes but now that Seat have only chosen TMC im stuck with it again. im hoping some method of traffic updates via MirrorLink will be available :)

Yeah, after a month with the car I just can't trust the traffic on the satnav. I still use it generally mind you, but for periods when I know the traffic is going to be bad and unpredictable, like coming back into london on a Sunday evening, I use the traffic on the TomTom on my phone.

Do you guys get traffic on that actual sat nav itself? Like Google shows the roads in red when very busy?

That's be really useful. On my way to work there are roads that sometimes have traffic and sometimes don't. The only time you know is when you're stuck in it.

i passed through some roadworks on the M54 last week and the display showed the google highlighting. i didn't notice any icons though, i guess any detailed info will be via the Traffic button.

It would appear that SEAT use TM-TMC which only covers Motorways and Trunk roads but saying that I have been on some trunk roads with traffic problems and nothing showing on the SEAT sat nav. Some other sat navs use RDS-TMC which covers all roads. So this explains why one was showing problems and not the other. Not sure but when you are out and about you will see cameras on blue poles these are for the TM system.

I've found that I have to keep entering the delay length whenever I plan a route. If I leave it at zero it doesn't show delays.
