Got the upper strut brace fitted by my guy on Wednesday, took approx 1.5 hrs.

Decided I'd give the engine bay a quick clean this morning before I took the pics, notice also the inclusion of a Forge Motorsport and revo sticker. Top end revs more freely now, estimate a gain of ~10lbs/ft near the redline from the stickers alone.

Anyway onto the import stuff, brace review. Took the car out, found some twisty roads and gave it some welly. Ok, so it feels 'different' but couldn't quite work out why. I started to notice on turn in the nose seemed to be moving quicker than I intended it to, as if I was apply lock a bit too quickly. Upped the speed and threw it round some long sweeping bends and played with the wheel, the front end was definitely reacting quicker to my inputs to the point where I had to slightly re-adjust my technique.

I am assuming, before, some of the initial lock you applied was taken up in the chassis flexing, giving a slight delay and 'springy' effect. Not something I can say I've noticed before, well, you wouldn't would you?

Negatives, ride seems even firmer to me, obviously more force is transmitted side to side through the bar and the chassis is acting less like some sort of torsion bar.

I have to say I get a great deal of pleasure being in tune with your own car and making relatively small modifications that you can feel a positive improvement with. It's a top mod and one is pleased.

Hi Guys

I've noticed my Leon Cupra is a bit vague and twitchy at high speed (I'm not saying how fast!) and was starting to think it's time for new shocks. Another mate I took out for a ride said "Oi, you need new shocks mate" Got it checked out at a local garage and they said the shocks seem fine but there's a bit of play in the front top strut mounts causing play in the steering and the tyres to scrub on the inside which might explain it.

Was thinking of fitting a strut brace to try and firm it all up. Looking through here seems it's the bottom brace that makes the most difference or do you reckon I should do top and bottom??

It could need the top mounts replaceing, you don't say how many miles is on the car, but tbh, the lc is twitcy at speed, even after doing both front braces and the rear lower 'teg' one, the car still feels loose, the standard suspension is a weak point on these car's and also the fact there is no rear arb fitted, makes it feel like the cars about to snap away at any minute.

tbh ,the only sure fire route to handling bliss, is new springs and dampers fit a rear arb and probably a new front arb as well neuspeed are the only ones that seem to fit with the std exhaust, cos the other's hit the rear box.

And the strut braces of course, it's all a bit expensive but if you want the car to handle properly it's the way forward....

Lots of miles is the answer..nearly 150k and still holding together! I bought it a couple of years ago on eBay for 3.5k.. It's been a top car for the money but I don't really want to spend a fortune on it (saving my money for a LCR when they get down to 7k).. Just want to stop it trying to chuck me off the road on fast bits.. it's a bit hairy when I go over a bit of hump!

In that case, i'd look into getting the top mounts diagnosed properly, to see if they've had it, shouldn't cost much, to replace those if they are.

And you could always look for some low mileage dampers on ebay, they come up now and again, should do you for a bit longer, till the lcr is more obtainable..
