Rumbling sound from rear tyres

I know there are lots of other threads on this, but there doesn't seem to be any conclusive answer to this, with some people saying new tyres, some saying wheel alignment etc.

From my own experience:
* The rumbling sound wasn't there when I first bought the car
* It is now there and I suspect that this is because the tyre's have worn unevenly
* I suspect new tyre's will fix the problem, but only until they wear unevenly again

I have just spoke to my local SEAT dealer ans the head technician there said he wasn't aware of this issue.

Please can people only post in this thread if they have actually had this problems sorted now, and if possibble does anyone have the bulletin number?

I'm really keen to get this problem sorted, but don't want to waste money on getting the other rear tyre fixed if the same problem is goign to just come back.

Have you checked your wheel bearings?

Mine was doing that noise and needed replacement wheel bearings at the back..

Get the rear wheels realigned at a decent tyre shop with laser alignment equipment - my car is fine now and there is no noise and the tyres are wearing evenly. see the settings for the camber in the rear tyre wear thread.I'm using Goodyear F1 assymetrics and the problem appears solved.SEAT should own up to this problem - cost me £250 to sort.

If it is cupping of the tyre, the problem will mostly be noticable at some certain speeds.
At least that's how it was for me.
After realignment and new tyres it was gone, but now that I have switched the rears to the front I supect that it still is an issue. Get the same problem, but at the steering wheel. Now at certain speeds it wobbles.
It is a lot less than with my previous tyre set though, the entire car was shaking at that time.
Mine is lowered though and I don't know how that affects things.

Do you hear it constantly? Then maybe bearings are the issue...

Nope, I've had it with my old Falken FK452 and now with Continental SportContact 3.
I've heard from people with Pzero nero and indeed the Brigdestones.

Bridgestoners here as well.

It doesn't happen all the time, only on certain types of road surfaces.

Also, since getting the left rear tyre replaced it is a lot less noticeable (although still there), which is why I think the tracking/camber is to blame, and if it is, get it sorted, then buy a 2nd brand new tyre at the rear and start enjoying the car again.

We'll see what SEAT say when I take it in next monday.

I had my wheels aligned by National Tyres there were 4mm out on the Laser alignment so got them to align them, £25 pounds cheap i thought, they dont charge anything if no changes needed

Quick update:
* Went in for a service on Monday
* Dealer had a look at the LEON again
* They advised that the rears we're wearing unevenly and to take it to get it laser alligned (they suggested Eden Tyre Sales)
* Just taken to ETS and the rears we're out, passenger side especially
* Dealer reckoned that after about 1000 miles, the rumble should go away as the tyres will start to wear evenly, techie at ETS wasn't so sure

* Will update in a month of so when the 1000 miles is up, fingers crossed

My 06 2.0 TDI SPORT had this problem and i had the full 4 wheel laser alignment done and new tyres at Awesome GTI.

It is caused by the rear subframe and there is only a small amount of adjustment to use to correct any misalignment so if it is a long way out it will not be possible to correct it 100%

Also the amount of noise depends on the tyres tread style if is is made up of rows of blocks on the inside edge where it wears due to too much negative camber it makes a lot of noise .You need some tyres with a different tread pattern i have Dunlop SP SPORT9000 and this tread design seems to work well so far.
