rubbing alloys!!!

hey guys...bit of a dilema. I recently lowered my mk2 cupra with 60mm shocks and springs (adjustable rear 30-60mm). They were fine with 15's but I fell for some lovely 17" 5 spokes, and after fitting them tonight I took the car out for a spin and there 's a sickening scrape everytime i hit and small pot hole. I know a couple of you have got 17's and have coilovers at about 60mm....have you got any advice for me??? I could really do with some help!! Could I cut the inner arch myself..is that safe and not too hard??? I'll get some pics up tomoro morning,

You can remove the inner arch lining to give a tad more clearance.
You can cut the arch lip out or knock it up so it bends flat to the wing.

Where is it rubbin?

its rubin on the strut itself a constant rubbing noise when the wheel goes around...will try postin some pics in a bit (aint done it b4!)

On a serious note, as dolly said the offset must be wrong. You could try some thin spacers if its only just about touching.

thats what I thought....but the guy said he's taken them from a honda crx... its got the same pcd and offset as the Ibiza...

top of tyre rubbing or inner sidewall?

top = rolling diam too big
inner= either offset wrong or rim too wide

I was thinking spacers...but the outside of tire is grinding the edge of the arch when I hit a small pot hole....so that would get even worse?!?! has anybody rolled theyr arches?? I'm not still driving on them...I took them off because of the constant rubbing.

wot size off tyres you got on? minez is lowerd 60mm wiv 205,40,17s and they dnt rub on the strut

hmmm...been lookin at black ones, u got any pics?? my tires are 205/40/17 aswell... my wheels are on ebay now....but only just chucked them on..can take them off if there is any proper interest...need at least £250 for them...4 brand new tires.
