Rough idle and running

Can you help me.

My Xreg 1.8 Cupra is not well.

often when i start it the engine runs very rough and there is no power there when trying to pull away, then suddenly the engine picks up and is ok.

This can continue for several miles. No warning lights have come on yet.

also the same fault has occurred on a journey when the engine is fully warmed up.

when ticking over the revs drop to appx 500rpm then pick up agian just before the point of stalling.

could be a MAF or misfire problem

needs to be hooked up to dealer 1552 or vag-com to have the codes read off the ECU if any, logs can be done with vag com also to help diagnose issues

std car by the way?

Plugs and coilpacks are another area. As are lambda probes.

Get thee to a specialist, rather than wasting money swapping expensive parts like the MAF that may not be broken. It will save you money, having someone who knows what they are doing look at it.

has been to Local SEAT dealer for 7 days.

So far new Air Recirculation valve fiited. - no difference.
New Turbo air pressure sensor, - no difference.

VAG computer is showing a Turbo intake air pressure loss code.
Garage dosent know what else to do and has referred to SEAT UK.

so are they saying theres a leak between the maf and turbo?

most pressure losses on here tend to be worn pipes/ loose clips or perhaps dv?

im sure they would have checked that your air filter/intake pipe arnt blocked up with crap?

would the garage let you take it to an independent vag tuner for a second opinion?

Ive the same problem altho mines a 1.6S. It has been chipped and a BMC CDA fitted, altho it was doing this before these were done. It has also been recently serviced (70K service), but they must not have picked up on the problem. A few times it actually dropped to 500 rpm and stalled/cut out. Although after the service it hasnt been dropping the revs as much and hasnt stalled.

Any ideas? Im hopefully getting it hooked up to a computer within the next week.

Finally got the car back after 2 1/2 weeks!.

Dealer seemed very unsure as to waht was wrong and ended up refering back to SEAT UK.

Final diagnosis was that a boost valve solendoid was faulty and not opening properly. Also the Throttle chamber was cleaned and reset.

however after 5 days and 150 miles the engine management light has come on.

its been back to the dealer again and they have informed me that it is error code 17536 P1128 Long Term Fuel Trim mult.,Bank1 System too Lean

The initial fault has been cured and the car runs and drives fine.

does anyone know what may be causing this new code.

Also does anyone know of a decent dealer or Seat specialist in the Wiltshire / Chippenham / swindon area as i am reluctant to go back to my current dealer again. especially as they say thay now want the car back for another 3 days!.

many thanks

Had a similar problem last year with my motor.

Dealer plugged in and informed my about lean and rich failures, everytime they cleared the ECU the light would come on acouple of days later. Similar problems with the engine idle boucing around nearly stalling and picking up again.
Dealer changed a couple of relays and other small parts, with no help at all, until eventually the car went into total safe mode (Fiesta's would flash past when I was pulling away..![:@] )

Anyway finally changed the Air Flow sensor and everything was fine, dealer didn't charge for everything else he changed, but it took him 6 weeks to get to the bottom of the problem.

Finally got it fixed.

Went to my local non franchised garage who

Did full service
New plugs
Changed MAF

Found that the dealer had left a sensor connection unplugged. (from the carbon cannister that vents off fumes from the fuel system)

Car is running better than ever now. More power at low revs (pre turbo) and also sounds better.

Interestingly Avg MPG is up by 2MPG

Im having problems with the car just stalling on me when cold and when warm pulling up to junctions. Also revving funny. I have looked at that carbon canister thing and there is a whole in the connector, do you think this could be the problem???????????
