revving problem

hi all im new to owning an ibiza so far i like it alot,nice ars to drive but i have my first problem already,my car will not rev over 5 grand,it feels like uve hit the rev limit, can ne1 tell me wot could b causing it?help wud b great!many thanx

well its a 2l 8v sport and yes it feels like hitting the rev limiter,i noticed couple of rough running this evening as well.im gonna get my mechanic m8 to look at the fault codes.
The car pulls really smooth most of the time except it just wont pass 5 grand,i though it mite b the cat.
do the maf sensors go wrong alot?

depending on which one you have fitted, but yeah not a big job, I soaked mine over night, refitted next day and it was like another car :)

what is the MAF???

my friends vectra had this problem and he could not find a solution, the EMS stopped it reving past 4K due to a fault in engine, never found the soluion so he bout a new engine lol

sure u wont need to thou

Timing is out. Get the dizzy checked by a mechanic. Happened on my cousins gti. Wouldn't rev past 5k. There were also afew other people on here that had the same problem and the fix was the same, timing was out. If you do a search on here you may find abit more info :p

Same problem on one I had, I can tell you exactly what it is.

The first thing is there are three cambelt pulleys that need to be lined up, not the usual two as on the 16vs. Crank and Cam Pulley and then one drives the distributor, this pulley has a dot mark on it which needs to be lined up to the mark on the top of the crank pulley.

If thats okay, the dizzy has to be seated correctly as follows;

With the engine spot on TDC;

The distributor has to be fitted so that the rotor arm points towards the notch on the distributor body, BUT, the distributor shaft has a notch on the bottom which mates with the drive tongue for the oil pump, this is the important bit, and is tricky, that drive tongue has to point to the hole for the clamp bolt.

ie

FRONT OF CAR

Ie you would have to remove the distributor and fit as above, takes a few attempts believe me!.


To save cost, I would set at TDC first and try fitting the distributor as above. As the other check recquires removing the plastic and an outer pulley to see the timing marks.

cheers for the help, i got my mechanic m8 to look at the fault code and it came up as 00515 whihc is hall sensor
not sure wot sensor it is i will def try gettin the timing sorted in the way that has been said wud b nice for it too run right!

Ignore that fault and do what I said above and it will work.

The hall sender is on the distributor, sends info to your rev counter and the ecu to check the position of the no1 cylinder. You will ALWAYS get a fault code when the engine is not running from it so ignore that.

As mentioned above, ignore the fault code. My cousins had the same error code when he had your problem. Do as robreidmotors has suggested or get your mechanic mate to do it before you go spending money on non-faulty sensors.
