Hi guys, I haven't posted in a while, but I have a quick question, you guys know how thick I am...

The first is, I know it has been mentioned on here before if you have had your car chipped, and need to reset it back to its factory defaults disconnecting the battery for approximately 30 mins this would do just that. I still only have the standard 156bhp version of the cupra, but it is now 4 years old and doesnt seem to drive as quick as it used to be and there are so many flat spots, I was wondering if disconnecting the battery would have any effect on my cars settings? or does it just need a good tune up.

For tuning, can any of you guys recommend any garages in the north-east of england that would do it for me.?

And my second question is about the TCS, when I get in the car, I automatically press the TCS button and the light comes on the dash, what am I doing, am I turning the Traction Control off or turning it on, I get so confused about that one.

Cheers guys, hope to read your response soon.

Thats interesting...

Cheers Leaky,

Thats really interesting because I find it easier to drive with it off than on... the car feels better, and my driving is better with it off, even in this weather.

Cheers

Yeah Forbez, ur right, the car is so much more responsive in the round-a-bouts, but the funny thing is I have always what I thought was turning it on, but in fact I was turning off, strange... maybe thats why I get a little understeer if I go into the corners to quick.

disconnecting the bat for 30 mins is what some poeple do to realign the throttle boddies.Which can help to "retune" a car. There's some debate as to whether this actually works as some say you can only realign with vag-com.

as for TCS, yes it would pull out of corners and roundabouts better with it off but you may find yourself going straight instead of round if the wheels are spinning.the traction control cuts the power if the wheels start to spin to prevent this. :funk:

Disconnecting the battery doesnt do a TBA. It removes any adaption values the car might have built up. You either have to do it by some weird way of opening the bonnent with the ignition on or do it via VAG COM.

TCS light on the dash means its off.

My engine management light sometimes comes on and it will be still on when i start the car again but if i disconnect the battery for a bit the light goes off, I thought the only way to reset your light was by using vag-com

Thanks for the replies guys. So probably on a standard car, disconnecting the battery is going to have little effect, I might try it to see what happens, its not going to hurt, I dont need any codes for anything so we will see. I will post something here if I find out anything interesting.

Cheers
