I have searched several times and tried loads of different ways but it just won't go

the main one seems to be hold trip down & turn ignition on & hold for about 10s til ---
tried car completely off, radio still playing, holding ages beforehand ages after etc.

just cannot get it to go!

this a dealer job you reckon? :(

Check in your user manual, my manual actually contains the reset method. Although it's a Toledo so it won't be the same as yours.

I've reset mine before on my '08 PD100 by just following the handbook, no problems encountered :)

Once I'm home I'll post up what it says in there.

Do you not turn the trip button to the left or press and turn for a couple of seconds when you switch the ignition on?

There was a few similar methods and I tried the lot of them several times. Got to the point where I put a thread up asking wtf I was doing wrong and was told that it would probably need done via vagcom which all it needed was a 1 in a box changed to a 0. Simple if you have access to it

Okay, here's an excerpt from my handbook:

The service indicator can also be reset by pressing the trip counter button.
Proceed as follows:
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Keep "Reset" button on distance counter pressed.
  • Connect ignition with the "Reset" button pressed. The fixed mode display appears.
  • Release the "Reset" button and rotate it to the right. The display will return to the normal mode. The indication has been reset.

It's on page 58 if anyone fancies swotting up :bleh:
