Replacing the stereo

Hi Guys,

My brand new Altea XL 1.9 Diesel Turbo arrives on Friday. I have arranged for a local firm to go in and fit an ipod kit so that I can charge the ipod in the glove box. Ok so far..... but.....he then rang and said that it would work with the steering control but would not display the names of the tracks. I asked if he could replace the stereo with one that would support track names etc and he said he couldn't because it was a weird Seat panel on the front.

Is this right, am I stuck with the standard stereo?

I quite fancy a DAB radio and the ability to see tracks/artists on the display.

Your thoughts please.

Cheers

Well all I can say is that the Seat radio is a unique kind of shape!!!
Haven't seen any aftermarket kits for them unless Seat themselves have one? Thought they did the ipod connection as an option anyway?

oops you'll start all this off about changing the headend which is a very decent one.... there are kits out there that give you two din fittings for two radios out of the hole for one, and some people reckon the gap is useful after they have had it fitted [it does look like a gaping whole mind you ;)]. There is an issue of loosing control of the headend via the steering wheel controls which is another reason not to do it. People get off on being able to fit one of those DVDs with a fold out screen that gives you satnav, but I think it's on peoples wish lists and I don't think anybody has done it, whether it supports the steering wheel controls another matter etc.

As said it's a good headend, the speakers need changing mind you, the factory ones are crap. There is a speaker changing thread on here....

PS being unique means that thieves pass the car by.

Tom.

Clarion do a kit that links the Altea steering wheel controls to a Clarion head unit. They also do a DAB add on black box if you are feeling extravagant. Can confirm it works as l've had one for over 2 years. The fascia is only available from a Seat dealer, they cost about £8.
